What's a good way to spook deer off a field at dusk to help prevent them seeing me leave my ground blind? Trying not to educate the nannies etc....

Spooked is spooked if it's done by you or something else. Just wait till it is completely dark and ease down quietly as possible if they aren't right under you

I read on here one time that if you’re in a tree, just climb down head first. Deer are supposed to think you’re a squirrel. I haven’t tried it yet.

If your phone has a record feature, record a big dog barking. I promise they will leave when you play that while exiting a shooting house.

If i was worried about it id use a remote control car...chase em off

Have someone drive in and pick you up if possible. A coyote howl will get the job done too. Throw your cushion out in the plot. I usually just climb down quiet as possible and go , I don't over hunt a stand so I don't think it's a big deal .

I use to tie a piece of paracord to a bush and run the cord to the stand. When I got thru hunting I would shake the bush from about 75' away and the idea was they thought it was a coon, squirrel or another deer shaking the bush. It would work.

If I'm hunting in hardwoods I always pick up a few acorn to toss at them if they close. I have had to drop my water bottle on a does back once to get her to move away from the bottom of the tree. On a green field just wait till good dark and sneak out.

Pop off a few fireworks over your plot.

I was in a loc-on Friday, had two does standing 7 yards from the base of the tree at the edge of a cut bean field. Was the end of legal shooting light. Waited until 5:40 and barked like a dog and it scared the chit out of them.

Best answer is either have someone drive in a push them off with a truck. Or wait until they leave naturally. Lee lakosky said he has waited till after mid night before. But other than that, hopefully your exit plan puts you away from the deer and not walking right through the plot, but I usually just get down. Or tie a linb to my rope and make some noise with it.

I always let my dog out of the stand first. He chases them year round anyway

By the way..Im certainly not waiting until midnight for a deer. Imagine how that would be to explain to a warden...

They usually leave when I pop the top on that first cold beer.

I knew a guy that always took a crow call or an owl hooter in the stand with him. If he had deer in the field when after shooting light he’d hit one of those calls and he said it scared the deer off without letting them know a human was there. This same guy also hung mannequin heads in shooting house and didn’t tell anyone. Scared the crap out of me as a kid, I thought some one was in the shooting house.

I always rip my velcro sleeves real fast or if bowhunting I'll rip my velcro release off fast. It spooks them and they have no idea what it is. Never seem to hurt my sightings when I go back and hunt the same stand. I've always got something velcro just for that issue.

I saw on Live PD the best way to get an animal to run off is to holler "Freeze, Police......"

You need to build or pile stuff up in a way you can get down and sneak out to a trail.

hell i've stuck my arm out the window with my phone on waving it up and down . was back the next evening lol

at dark i have walked edges of fields all bend over and the deer look at me . stand up and they're gone though .

I was getting out of a shooting house yesterday and was being real quiet, because I had 3 bucks on in the field about 70 yards away and on the last step I made a big thud sound, so I just kind of ran out of there like a gorilla on all 4's...lol. I knew they could see me, but I figured they would at least know I wasn't a human and was some animal lower to the ground. Maybe wasn't necessary, but seemed like a good idea at the time and they didn't blow out of there.

Got me! I laughed pretty hard at that one. Let me know if it works out.

I just chuckle when I read chit like this from him, Jay Gregory, and the rest of those midwest cowboys with tens of thousands of unmolested acres full of the dumbest whitetails on the damn planet. "I didn't hunt this one particular farm for 3 straight years because the wind was never absolutely perfect." Actually heard Jay Gregory say that once. I bet some local redneck killed a damn stud or 3 on that place every year while goofy arse was off elsewhere. Bill Winke will get on a huge buck out there in Iowa, hunt and see him an hour before dark every single day from the same Redneck blind, and shoot the sumbitch through his backstrap about once a week until he finally gets one in the boiler room.

imo ,,,, theres different kinds of spooked . if they start blowing and wheezing , you done scared them !!!!!!!

if they just trot off they just be a little alarmed , big difference .

the one thing deer are scared of the most is people , dont look like people when they see you !!

A loud dart will do the trick.

I dont like it when they blow. Seems like to me if they know somethings up but aint sure what theyll leave, if they think its close they leave faster. If they smell you they know for sure whats up, they blow and run like the devils after them.

I got a buddy that will stay in the stand all night if he has deer around him. I literally won’t invite him to hunt certain places with me causes it’s too much of a inconvenience to wait on him. Oh yeah and don’t use a light.
