I was outside about 10am and looked across the field and seen a huge bodied buck with a doe, I don't know what the rack size is. But he a very large bodied buck. It is right at 580 yards to where they were and they walked right in front of my climber; i have a good wind to hunt out of it today. I don't know what kind of tree my climber is in but it very loud to climb. Only tree that is straight for a climber and I have a good view from it. Sitting on the ground is not an option because of the way the terraces run in the field and I would not be able to see good. I know they did not go up the water way to the west and cross the field. They bed in a patch of woods that is very thick. Beings they are probably bedding in this thick patch of woods, because they always do. I am afraid if I climb the tree I will spook them. I have took pics and filmed three different mature 10-12 points from on top of the grain bins here at the house from Oct 28th to Nov 1st and a bunch of smaller bucks with does. I bow hunted out of this climber Nov 2nd and 3rd, those were the only two days I had a good wind to hunt out of it. Would you take a chance hunting it this afternoon from 2pm until dark or would you hunt a different farm ? I have another farm to hunt with a good wind also.

In the pic below, yellow is the water way, red circle with x is where my climber is. Standing beans and crp behind me are private property.

View from tree, 180 yards to wood line.

Pic from Nov 3rd on the way to hunt out of the climber and two does standing in front of my climber, yellow line behind the doe on right side is the tree my climber is in. Pic was taken from about 200 yards.

Climb slow! Take your time and the noise will be minimal. That buck won't stay with that doe forever. Strike while the iron is hot. Any way to make the climber quiet? Pipe insulation tubing? Good Luck

Black line in front of the yellow in the first pic is where I seen the buck and doe at 10am.

How strong is the wind blowing? I would think you could slip around the downwind side of the corn field and get in your climber if the wind is blowing enough to mask your sound.

Or pull a Johnny Loco and belly crawl to the center of the cut corn field and wait for them to move 😁

If there is a hot doe in There you need to get in there. If she is hot she Could bring several more around to check things out. The Bucks will be focusing on her as long as she stays around I'd think you are good.

We killed plenty of deer with those climbers. Yes, if you hurry it will scrape the tree, but if you go slow you can climb quietly. For that matter you can put a slit pipe insulator or duct tape on the edge that touches the tree. Remember, where there's a will, there's a way!

I can slip across the east side of the corn field and go down the water way, wind is about 3-5 mph out of the SW right now. Might get up to 8 or so this afternoon, not any higher today.

I am almost 100% sure they are bedded in the bedding area or along the edge of it.

I would be willing to bet that the mature deer are bedding in the crp of it is tall and can block the wind

If the winds right and you are 100percent sure the buck you want is in the woods then I would already be in the stand especially with a hot doe in the area

Hunt it this afternoon. Climb slow and take your time. I know some trees you cant be quiet on no matter how slow you go.

I’d dig a divit on the right side where the first “C” is in cut corn field, and make a blind out of the old dried stuff. Just wait him out.

Just go get in the stand now and keep us updated. I expect a picture of you and the deer no later than 4pm.

I will get blasted for this but I would climb very slow and have my bow or gun with me the whole time. Never know but they could spook and offer a shot.

I'm heartbroken that you're using a climber and not scaling trees with your fingernails and toenails anymore to get 35 feet high. laugh

Alan, if the trees were not wet from the snow melting we got Monday, 3 inches , I would shimmy a tree this afternoon.

Getting dressed here in a minute and going to see if I can get the climber up the tree without making much noise. Should be at the tree by 2:30. Taking the camera, may not be one the bucks I am after. Hoping for it to be bigger, if I see them this afternoon.

I would hunt no matter what the wind is in that situation, I have killed alot of big bucks.
When deer are rutting they will let guard down ,that's when you can capitalize on there
mistakes. Yes I know to hunt the wind. I put on alot of pure vanilla extract, even drag a
Rag with vanilla on it and tie the rag to a tree like you do with doe and heat. It will almost
draw the deer to it for the shot.

I’m of the opinion that noise isn’t all that big of a deal, especially in the rut. Last week I was hanging a lockon on the edge of some crp. As I was hanging it, I look up and and 8pt is chasing a doe at 50yds not paying a lick of attention to me. Same day, my dad had a coon dog show up at the bottom of his tree and start howling at him. After he got him run off, a small buck cruises through not 15 minutes later.

Good luck!

Unless I’m missing something it looks like you’re in a good position I’d wait for the wind you need and see what happens.

Atoler is right. During the rut you don't worry about spooking the buck. It's that crazy doe pulling him along on a string!
She is capable of screwing everything up if spooked.

I did see 15 deer, 5 racked bucks and the rest were does and this years fawns. Did not kill anything. First thing I seen was some idot sitting in his truck watching the corn field and roadway. I took pictures of him in the truck. When he looked over and saw me he left. He had know reason at all where he was sitting, he was trespassing. I am thawed out now and still have to eat some super. Will post some in a little while.

Will post some in a little while.

Sorry to hear about that A-hole. Lookin' forward to the pictures. Also, have you considered a setting up in a ground blind? I know a few have mentioned it already. Them boys from The Hunting Public seem to use ghillie suits and wind to good effect. Let us know!

Here is the pic of the truck I seen. As soon as he looked over and seen me he left. He was just below the right bottom corner in the first pic I posted in this topic. He was setting where they load the grain trucks from the corn field

Walking across the field I had two of this years fawns feeding out in the field on top of the terrace closest to the bedding area I was hoping the buck ans doe were bedded in. One button head and the other was a doe fawn. They were not even paying any attention to me crossing the field, I was between the the third and fourth terrace up from them.

This is the button head from above pics. I walked across the field and down the water way to the terrace right above where my climber is. He walked straight at me, was about 50 yards before he ever seen me.

Before I climbed the tree I put Harmons Herd blend scent stick deer pee which comes in a deodorant stick type thing, like Evercalm. I have a habit of rubbing two swipes each down the outside of both boots, both outer pants legs, and both outer arms of my jacket.

In front of me and to the left of me.

Dead down wind behind me on the private property where the standing bean field is. The clump trees in the middle of the field is surrounding a pond.

You should have put a few of them decorative bullet holes in back door of that truck.

Daughter called me from Florida at 3:30, texted her back and told her I would call her later I was hunting. When I put my phone up I stood up and stretched. Looked behind me and seen my first deer from being in the climber.

All the pics below are all down wind of me on the private land. Had more of a South wind all afternoon instead of a South West wind.

Awesome hunt Swampy. What kind of camera setup do you have? The zoomed in pics are very clear.

These are the last pics and one video. Did see one more doe and had a buck run a doe in the field above where these pics and video were taken. Was not the buck I was after and my camera did not get good pics of them because was not good enough light left. Time to hunt another farm this afternoon. Wind is shifting and I should be able to hunt it after 2pm.

JBL I have a Panasonic FZ150 I bought back in 2012, I have took 1,940,496 pics and videos as of right now. It is getting wore out and am going to get another camera sometime next spring. I have zoomed up on a tv station tower at 6 miles away according to goggle earth and can see the guide wires on it.

Thanks Swampy, that's impressive. I wouldn't mind having something like that myself for deer, pond ducks, and other wildlife I see.
