A lot of people want to go to a shorter rifle season. I don't like WW3 on opening day, any more than it already is.

I honestly wouldn't mind it if they did. More than anything I just wish we weren't so liberal with doe harvests.

If they ever made it a week here we’d beat that record I guarantee it. People here would shoot the first thing they saw opening day. No telling how many button bucks would go down. rofl

^^^^^^^^You are probably right. Gun season being compacted would likely be a stampede for the woods.

If there season lasted as long as ours you could kill them all in one year.

It is really hard to believe to me. Most of MO did not get above 25 degrees opening day, was 9 degrees when I got up at 5:30 and around 15 at noon. I heard three shots from my box stand from 1 pm until 5:30 pm opening day this year, heard over 100 opening afternoon last year. I hunted Sunday afternoon 2nd day from 1pm until 5:30pm and heard 2 shots out of a loc-on. Both of the farms I hunted are not that far from public land and it usually sounds like WW2 opening weekend there and the surrounding farms. I did not hear any shots fired at the house either morning before I went hunting, which is very unusual because I usually hear at least 20-30 .

It was really quiet in MO where we were hunting opening weekend. We all saw plenty of deer but only 2 bucks were killed on opening weekend out of 10 people hunting. Last year there were roughly 15 hunting the same property and we had 9 bucks in the cooler by the end of the weekend. Just didn’t seem like the big bucks were on their feet as much this year. Granted we only hunted opening weekend. Next year I’m taking at least 5 days off to hunt up there. Just not worth all the driving to go from SC to MO to only hunt 2 days.

I heard probably 75 shots between 8am and 10am Saturday. Another 20 or so from 3-4:30. Not many Sunday morning, maybe 5-10

I stay up with it daily, sometimes every few hours if I am not hunting. That is why I said It is really hard for me to believe. In the county I live in reported that we killed over 500 more deer opening weekend this year that we did last year opening weekend. Our map is updated three to four times an hour.

Open the link below and hover over a county to see the county's name and harvest numbers.
