I boil, clean off the meat with a pressure washer and then put in a large plastic tub with an aquarium heater to the highest heat setting. Add about a 1/4 cup of dish soap. Let that sucker sit, for months.

Change the water every few weeks or however long. Replace dish soap too. The further you get into it, the less you need to change the water.

It won't really have much smell until you pull it out of the water. When you can pull it up and the smell is like that of dish soap it is done. Peroxide it if you want.

Could take 3 months, could take 10 months depending on how clean you get it up front, but its very low maintenance.

I got a local guy that'll do it for $45. Not worth me fooling with it.

That’s a heck of a deal. $ 20 for propane and peroxide and at least 3 hrs time that fellow ain’t making minimum wage. I have to turn them away at 125.

I am in Pensacola and use a guy 5 minutes north of Brewton. $70 and he does fantastic work. I can get you his number if you want.

I've also seen signs on Chumuckla Highway just north of Chumuckla for a guy that has opened shop doing skull mounts. I don't know the cost or have his contact.

He has a huge vat that he does 20 at a time. Boils them 2 hours, high pressure sprays them, then peroxide.

What type peroxide do most hunters use to scull mount deer.
I have scull mounted my last 3 bucks that I killed. I normally
Keep them In my old freezer until it starts getting warmer.
Then I put them in a ant bed until the ants do most of the work.
Of course I put a wire cage around them were the animals won't
tote them off. After they get most of the meat off them ,then I pour
Peroxide all over them and it eats away any remaining flesh or hair.
I have always used normal 3 percent peroxide, but my cousin who is
starting his own taxidermy said you can buy a lot stronger peroxide from
a beauty salon, I don't know but I'm gonna look into it. He said it speeds
Up the process and makes the scull mount look alot better.

Vanderpool does good work. He's a taxidermist. Chad Cherry, I've seen his on forums, but not in person. Pistol Martin is full time professional euro-dermist. (how you like that one). He does euros from all over the country. Gets lots of local taxidermists work sent to him. I've seen some unreal mounts at his place. All kinds of critters too.
The reason I prefer using beetles is, they come out white. No yellow tint. Boiling pulls the oils to the surface. I know some will disagree, but that's my preference.

I use 40% peroxide from the Local Beauty Shop Supply.

I picked up my grandson's 9pt European mount yesterday and it looks good, only charged $40.

i do my boil with dawn blue dishwashing liquid & baking soda ... the peroxide i use is from Sally Beauty Supply & it's the 40 volume developer; i don't boil with this but i use a squirt bottle & totally cover the skull, wrap in a couple plastic grocery bags, and let is set/develop overnight ... usually by the morning, it's perfectly white ... i brush on some Mop-N-Glo & i'm done ...

Dang right. Piss on all of that cooking and crap. Way too much hassle. I don't even use an aquarium heater myself. I skin them when they are fresh, put them in the freezer, and when the weather starts breaking warm in the spring....I put em in a bucket of water with holes drilled in it that allows the water to drain out if the water level gets too high up on the antlers (which will stain them dark). In about 6 weeks, pull it out and rinse it off with a garden hose and then put it in fresh water with lots of dawn (for final degreasing) for about two more weeks. Voila, ready for whitening and clean as a whistle. Easy, peasy.

sounds great - most people aren't that patient, however ... the beauty of a skull mount is you can get it up on your wall quickly vs. waiting like you do on a shoulder mount ...
