I've been on this piece of property for about 3 years now. I've seen several hens numerous times but today was the first sighting of a gobbler, a Jake. Is this normal? What would explain the low to non-existent sightings?

Spring and fall habitats differ greatly. Seasoned Turkeys hunters have learned “we see tons while deer hunting” usually means turkey wasteland in the spring. I would say In generall they like big open hardwoods and acorns in the fall. Grassy open fields and nesting area in the spring.

Also, your longbeards will be in a flock together in the winter, and they might not be using your place. If you can keep some hens around through the spring, you will eventually have some gobblers.
