Stupid law, if it’s illegal. At least with a pistol.

I think it might be hard to say which hole came first.

If you track a deer a after a shot and walk up on it past legal shooting light, is it legal to finish the deer off with your bow?

I’ll be honest, after watching the last deer I shot with a bow suffer, I’ll make sure I have my 1911 on me me to finish the job.

I’ll take the damn ticket.

Just curious, if ya could see deer, why didn't you stick it again?

That's what I did. I would have much rather put a .45 through her than drive another arrow through her chest.

I was tracking through a 4-5’ cutover. My bow would have been hung up on everything. It looked like a perfect shot so didn’t expect him to make it far.

I was in a club years ago and we had a guy kill a nice 8 point with a 22 squirel hunting. He claimed he shot it with a bow and rode and arrow around in his gun rack but didn't even own a bow. He got ran out of outlaw dog club. It pissed everybody off.

this post got me wondering about my original email to the warden about finishing a deer off with a pistol so i sent him another one and asked what if I track the deer and find it suffering after legal hours do i just let it die on its own he said no to shoot it with the bow again as long as first shot was within shooting hours its not an issue.

That brings up a good point. I wonder if that's his opinion or what they're told to enforce if it became an issue. I've seen the guys on "The Hunting Public" tracking deer at night carrying bows, but on one episode, they had to just watch a deer until it died stating, "we can't shoot because it's not legal" (paraphrasing here).

In my opinion, which along with 2 cents might get you a free cup of coffee, it's much easier to convince a game warden that shooting a disabled deer that's laying on the ground after hours with a bow and arrow was the right thing to do versus shooting it with a firearm.

1. A bow with a proper broad head/arrow combination is a very lethal weapon.
2. If you’re not proficient enough with your bow to make clean kills then quit hunting and practice until you’re good enough.
3. I’ve killed over 100 deer with a bow and never had any issues, most drop within sight.

Legal or not sometimes ethics have to come into play. Just like hitting a deer with a car and breaking its back. No need in letting the thing suffer for hours.
