My fields are coming up well , and were fertilized well, but have some yellow spots. I'm going to add some lime tomorrow before the rain. I'll be adding pelletized lime. Anyone ever added so much it burned a field by adding too much after their fields were already up ?

You won't notice anything this year by adding lime this late you might see a change in the spring. Lime isn't fertilizer your not going to burn up a field with it you'll be changing the pH of the soil. About the only way you'll see a change this year is by using liquid lime or a variant but its goes to work fast and leaves just as fast could be even faster in sandy soils. Since it's more of a bandaid fix I would wait till spring do a soil sample and determine how much lime is needed per acre and then lay it on it accordingly.

it needs to be tilled in the soil especially the amounts your gonna need to affect the ph noticeably. some of our fields call for almost 2000lbs per acre

Slag will raise the ph immediately, takes about 2weeks to start working. If you could put it out before a steady light rain, that should get it in the ground. Would be better to till it in but that is not absolutely necessary. Also slag is only effective for a year.

We put slag down last year but this is the first time I've heard that it only lasts a year. Why does it only last one year?

My recommendation is to use permethrin on your clothes to avoid the potential of contracting lyme disease.
