Anyone have one? Got any good suggestions on which one to get, they’re pretty pricey just want to make sure we get the right one for the job. Our pool is in ground 20x40 I want one that will climb the walls and steps & clean them as well

We have a Polaris 280 but you'd need a booster pump with one if you are not set up for one already

I have a maytronics m400 (same as dolphin). It doesn't do well walking/climbing our stairs in a plaster pool. The transition from pool bottom to walls is rounded and it does climb to the waterline and scrub, so that's a positive.
It seems to really do a good job. I wish I didn't have to clean filters every time, but that comes with the territory. We mostly use the finer pleated filter but will put the mesh filter in after thunderstorms to get leaves and pine straw out (they clog the pleated filter very quickly, stopping the robot from continuing the cleaning cycle).
Edited to add: these are electric powered, they do NOT plug into the suction side (strainer) or the pressure side (jets). They have an umbilical cord back to an inverter (DC power) that plugs into a wall outlet (AC power). Having had both the robot that is electric, and a booster-pump powered polaris, I don't think there's any doubt in my mind the robot is far stronger than the polaris in its suction/cleaning ability.

Polaris is a good one,,,, long life to them if you keep your pool chemicals balanced,,,, too alkaline and it'll eat up the plastic and metal gears over time , their pretty easy to work on parts are available at your local pool suppliers or order online,,,, they'll have a leaf bag and a separate silt sock. the hose has a filter at the pool side where it hooks up ,, keep it clean too. The Polaris can work your pool over in a matter of hours. IF you keep your filter tank washed and rinsed enough the Polaris can help make your pool pristine as can be.. you might see a spec every now and then but I maintained my pool on a daily basis. If you let it go too long be prepared for it to take much longer to clean. They're awesome for getting the leaves out of the pool if you don't feel like scooping them up your self, but keep checking and emptying the bag .
My Polaris crawled the walls and the steps but I still had to brush them. They are worth the money definitely a good helper and can save you hours of back breaking pool maintenance. I had the 360.

Polaris 280. The Hayward Shark is also a good cleaner. Neither will clean steps or benches. You will need to brush them off occasionally. The most efficient way to clean a pool is with the manual equipment. I have the polaris and it cleans my steps but I don’t have the insert steps but the ones that go across the pool
