I believe it's something like 16 mil. ,immediately and 16 mil. over 4 years. Ernie I was listening to sports talk radio today and an Auburn insider said that the 16 million up front wasn’t a problem. And like you said the rest would be spread out over 4 years. But all of this is negotiable depending on how bad Malzahn would want to leave if Auburn has fallen out of love with him. Could be less. He also said that half of the board and other influential wealthy boosters was totally against the new contract but the president and athletic director was played by Jimmy Sexton and fell for the he’s going to Arkansas or else hype. Leroy, that's about what I heard. I do have a hard time with Jacobs playing much of a role in that decision. It's amazing that it went as far as it did. (Some things haven't come to light yet and probably never will) Most of Kirby's family were Auburn people.

This board will explode if AU were too hire Lane Kiffin after all theshit talked by the barners on here. Barners will take him with a smile. He'd be a heck of a hire too and would probably come to Auburn on the cheap- even if it was just so he had an easy path to phuck with Saban.

So... I'm trying to understand this... Auburn pays out 16 million and then another 16 million over the next 4 years to Gus to get him to leave. Probably more than that including the staff. Then pretty much the same family of people (Minus Jay Jacobs) gets to pick someone else and sign them to probably an equally lucrative contract for several years. Is that right? What if this next guy turns out to be a 7-5 or 8-4 per year guy too? I think the problem for Auburn, and almost every established, aspiring college football program in the nation for that matter, is the benchmark that Nick Saban has set. That benchmark for a program is playing for the National Championship every year. That benchmark for aspiring coaches is 10 million a year. Every established school thinks they should be on the same level as Alabama and is looking for a Nick Saban type coach to get them there, and every coach (And their agent) who thinks they're as good as Nick Saban is thinking that they deserve Nick Saban money. People need to grasp reality and understand that Alabama has caught lightening in a bottle with the combination of the tradition, name recognition and resources of a college like Alabama, a college leadership group and boosters and alumni that were willing to turn the reins of a multi-million dollar program basically over to one man and one man with the football knowledge, recruiting, talent evaluation, vision and incredible work ethic of a guy like Nick Saban. The rest of college football needs to understand that this kind of thing only happens to a major college football program once in a lifetime. Well... Actually for Alabama it has happened twice in my lifetime with Paul Bryant and Nick Saban but that's beside the point. Auburn has had Shug Jordan and Pat Dye and quite frankly that about the best it's ever going to get at Auburn and the Auburn family needs to face those facts and quit throwing money up a wild hogs ass. Auburn needs to be Auburn and realize that they are never going to be Alabama. Sure beat Alabama every few years, roll Toomer's Corner, play for the SEC Championship and or maybe the National Championship once and a while and be happy with that.

Lots of good points, Irish. The thing most of us want, is a consistent team and coach that doesn't let every team we play scare hell out of us or beat us, when they are heavy underdogs. After that, we will think about Saban. ---Gotta go throw that Spook and hope I don't drown--- Think about us retired folks while you lunchbuckets slave away. Lol

I was told that Jay Jacobs didn’t have anything to do with the Malzahn extension. If that’s the case, why do Auburn fans think that the same search committee can hire a better candidate? From what I understand it was the president and the new athletic director. The president only being at AU for two years and a brand new AD didn’t want to deal with hiring a new coach. It was the easiest route to sign Malzahn to a extension. Who or what is coaching at Auburn or any other public institutions doesn’t matter to me. It has gotten past the point of ridiculous what these coaches, athletic directors and sports agents are being paid. And all these cost of doing business is passed down to us. The common alumni and fans that support them.

Irish, you said it brother. Even Charles Barkley said that Auburn would never be Alabama. Usually there's only room in a state for one top dog, and in this one it's Alabama! I really don't see him going anywhere this year, and guys think about it, who wants to have to compete with Nick Saban everyday of the year for recruits? They can stay where there at, and get paid nicely and go 8-4 or 7-5. Auburn, is not a top ten job.

I dont understand all the hysteria. Last year Gus was the toast of the town when he beat Georgia and Alabama, he obviously was doing something right. Now the Auburn fan base is in total melt down trying to figure out a way out. I wonder what the mentality would be if he slips up and beats Georgia and/or Alabama again? Dont laugh, Georgia isn’t what they were last year and Bama has shown weakness in the last 2 weeks. (I didnt think there was any way the barn could beat bama last year) Dont get me wrong, Ive never been a fan of Gus, always laughed at his style, booger picking ex. but you have to admit Gus has done a decent job. He is 130 miles from Tuscaloosa. As Irish says above, like it or not, Bama is currently the standard for college football. The booger picker has done a decent job in recruiting and W-L record considering he directly competes with Bama day in, day out. The Law of Averages says everyone will have bad times, I dont think Gus will ever be a coach that competes year in year out for a NC, but how many of those coaches are out there?
If lighting strikes at the end of the year and Gus does pull off a miracle, you guys will be eating crow yet again. Burbank will be back posting the score daily for 365 days, the lynch mob will will fade until next year. The sun will come up and life will go on.

As an Auburn fan, I can honestly say I don’t expect to beat Alabama or Georgia every year. I don’t expect to have a 10 win season every year or win the SEC every year. However, I do expect to see a team improve over the course of the season. I do expect to see the coaching staff giving the team a game plan that can win. I also expect the coaches to make changes when the situation calls for it. That’s not happening (and arguably hasn’t been happening for some time) with the guy in charge. At the game last weekend I saw a lot of players on the sideline with the “aw hell, here we go again” look on their face when Stidham threw a pick on a trick play, which there was no reason for them to even call said play. I haven’t liked our coach since we fired Tubs. The offensive game plan has been figured out and the coaches have no backup plan. The defense has gotten progressively worse as the season has gone on. It boils down to poor coaching. I fully expect us to go 5-7 at this point. The players have quit on this guy, and so have many of the fans. Time to part ways, even though it’s gonna hurt and cost a ton of money.

If they want him gone they'll get the money. $32 million? From where? I remember when Saban was "supposedly" shopping Texas, and folks made it sound like they could "outpay" Bama. They paid $100 million/10 years for Jimbo, which is astronomical. I think $32 million is a pretty big obstacle for getting Gus out.

If they want to get rid of the bum, they can write a check. IIRC Jimmy Rane has a net worth over 600 million. 32 million is only 5% of that. Saddle up, yella fella.

32 million buyout! Hahahahahahahaha!! Y'all are stuck with him for a generation. Jimmy Sexton ought to be in jail for getting them to agree to a $32M buyout, expecially with the terms of it. It is almost criminal! That man must have incriminating pictures of a BUNCH of folks.
