I’m wanting a single shot in 308 to have as back up and also to lean against the back door for the family to shoot deer off the back porch. I’m not familiar with these at all. What do y’all recommend CVA,H&R or New England firearm? I also want to put a scope on it.

I shot the CVA in .44 Mag last week at a range and really liked it. Thought it locked up solidly, was enough weight with the rifle to minimize (for me) the felt recoil and it was accurate.

I have no need for a single-shot rifle like that but would take a look at the CVAs.

I’ve had both. Got the CVA Hunter in 308 now. Very nice compact and accurate rifle. You can get them at Academy for around $200 without a scope but comes with a base or a little over $200 with a Konus scope. I’m a huge fan of NEF rifles but both 308’s I had by them would open on every shot. I don’t think you can go wrong with the CVA.

I have a CVA Scout in .45-70, and it's a shooter.

I'd look at the CVA scout if it was me. I almost bought one a year ago in 7mm-08 but ended buying something different.

I have become a fan of the CVA's. Light compact and easy to carry. I have them in 223, 243, 7mm08 and 35 remington.

If you were closer to montgomery here is one on gunbroker for a good price. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/786945613

My daughter shoots a CVA Scout V2 compact in 7mm-08 and its pretty dang sweet. I am not going to lie I take it quite a bit if I know I am not going to be doing any stalking. It is a heck of a treestand gun.

I had one of the cva stalkers in 308 and it would shoot about an inch at 100 yards with a fixed 4 power scope

CVA Scout. Big Daddy’s has as good a price on them as anybody. Some have a lot better triggers than others. Have em get them all out so you can go through them.
The little .243 I have will shoot 2.5-3” groups at 500 yards if it’s not windy.

Most shops don't stock them. Lots on Gunbroker, but my local ordered for me at about the same price.

H&R or New England . ,,,, some of the older ones have a heavy trigger . for most 14 year olds that aint shot much a 8 pound trigger might be a bit much .

but ,,,,, a trigger job will fix you right for about $45 .

i have a 35 whelen , 357 mag, 243 , 30-30 . they all shoot great . never touched a cva so i'm no help on those .
