Are you 100% positive these leaves and acorns came off of the tree in the pic?
That’s red oak acorns and leaves with white oak bark. Never seen it before. I’m pretty positive. I didn’t see any other leaves and no other oaks close. That’s why I was confused. Is that an oak tree directly to the right in the picture? When I say close, I mean within a few feet. I picked up the leaves from the base of the tree pictured.

I think paintrock has it. Leaves like red, bark like white= pin. Aliot of times folks will call a willow oak a pin oak. The above pics are what a real pin oak looks like. Pin oak bark does not look like that. No red oak has flaking gray bark. Pin oak has gray bark, with rigid furroughs in it.

Dang sure a int no white oak. You’re absolutely right on the leaves/acorns. That bark is a white oak. Ain’t a red oak anywhere in TN with bark like that.

All white oak species have rounded lobes on the leaves. All red oak species have pointed lobes on the leaves.
I've never understood that, Blackjack oak is a red and the leaves sure don't look pointed to me. I still think the tree/bark shown is a white oak , could possibly be a chinkapin , they are very similar . The leaves look to be scarlet or pin oak.
