i agree that the tree is definitely not quercus alba (white oak) but i still think it is a tree in the white oak family which includes both burr and post oaks.

Definitely in the white oak family. All white oaks have rounded lobes and all red oaks have pointed lobes.

Sure. But deer don’t care about genus/species. They want the good akerns. A white oak or swamp chestnut oak is preferred over a post oak. Despite being in the white oak fambly.
