Considering if I shot someone from more than about 50 yards I would probably be typing this from prison.... I prefer an old police trade in riot shotgun myself. Parkerized Ithaca 37 for me.

Well when I see thugs proudly sporting their own ARs and AKs, why not level the playing field? Plus I like to bust hogs and coyotes when I see them

Mines stays on the center arm rest unless I'm going out of town than it is hid in the back seat. Most of the times my elbow is touching it. I want it close for hogs and coyotes.

Well when I see thugs proudly sporting their own ARs and AKs, why not level the playing field? Plus I like to bust hogs and coyotes when I see them Handguns are used in most crimes. The vast majority occur in darkness and when firearms are used the vast majority are used at close range I think inside of 15 feet if that statistic is still good.. Your most important weapon is your sidearm which hopefully won't be back at the truck. If you think you are going to get into a shootout with an active shooter you are much more likely to get struck by lightening. If you think you are going to stop a robbery that's ok too but someone else's money is not my problem and not worth my life. I'm not getting into a shootout at a gas station parking lot or liquor store or.... ain't mine. My kids need me alive. I can't think of anything more decisive inside 50 yards than a load of buckshot. AR's are good for shooting hogs. You ain't gonna be outgunned with a shoty though.... in about any scenario in any kind of urban environment. Gas Station, Wal Mart. If you had to go into a school or church to stop an active shooter... again, shotgun at close range is not out gunned by any AR-15. Unless you think you are going to get involved with an active shooter in a hay field or zombies. I have been known to carry an underfolder AK myself in the truck... I'm just putting the argument out there.

The only reason I need to have one in the backseat is because I can. I'm not trying to go all Rambo like you're suggesting. I just wanted to know who carries one safely and the reasons why I'm carrying one shouldn't matter to you.

My main reason for keeping an AR in the truck was when I worked downtown. There were a couple time - the last presidential election being one - I thought I may have to fight my way out of the 'hood. Call me paranoid or whatever, but I wanted as much firepower as I could safely secure in my truck when parked downtown.

My buddy, a former marine sniper, told me a sidearm is a tool to get to a rifle.
