Anyone use a 300blk pistol for hunting? Thinking of building one but wanted to get some input. Pros/cons, scope, etc. What type of ammo do you like? I dont handload, so what store bought ammo do you prefer. I know range will be limited.

Are you looking at subsonic? If so, as long as you keep your shoots within 100 yards, you should be fine. With supersonic ammo, you can hunt as far as you can accurately shoot it. That is dependent on the shooter.

I have taken my 9” 300blk a few times and killed pigs with it, but in season I tend to take the 16” 300blk. Your best off the shelf option is going to be Barnes 110 or 120 tacTX (Vortx) if you plan to use supersonic ammo. Buy this soon as it always runs out of stock once the season begins. I wouldn’t hesitate to shoot those out to 200 yards.
If you want to try subsonics, get some loaded Makers or Lehigh. Understand that this is practically the same as bowhunting with similar trajectories and lethality assuming you can get expansion.

Yes, that's the primary reason for going with a pistol is trying to keep it shorter with a silencer attached.

Thanks I'll check those out. I have a buddy that has started loading Makers and he is very impressed.

I hunt with a 10.5" suppressed ar pistol. Have never lost a deer, and have shot to 205 yds. I usually neck shoot, and hunt with Barnes 110 grain tac-tx.

I started with a Nikon ar-223 scope ht put a zeiss conquest on a couple years ago for a little more magnification.
