This is pretty much a shot in the dark, but I figure it can't hurt to ask...

Would anyone want to rent me a crossbow for a few days?

I've got an opportunity to go on an early season archery hunt in Texas next month. It's going to be a quick one - drive out on a thursday, hunt friday and saturday and possibly early sunday, and drive back sunday. The terrain is flat and vegetation is short. Mostly mesquite. No trees to speak of to hang stands on. So we'll be bow hunting from the ground....I'm decent with my bow but not fantastic. I'm thinking about toting a crossbow out there to extend my range and up my chances of actually dropping something. I'm confident that we'll see a bunch of deer but putting one on the ground is a separate matter, given those parameters. I'm not keen on breaking down and spending hundreds of dollars on a crossbow for a whopping two days of hunting.

Anyone?

...And yes I'm fully expecting the onslaught of bow purists ridicule. Bring it on.

My dad has one. I can ask. What kind of deposit are you willing to put down?

I have two. You are more than welcome to borrow one. For all that you do for foster kids, I will not take a penny from you. I have everything you need, ranger finder, bolts, case etc. Just put some mojo on it

I have a pse rattler you can use. I have not shot it this year, but we can get it setup pretty quick.

It's a good bow, I kilt my biggest buck with it, but I'm done with archery stuff.
At least until my shoulders are rebuilt. And that ain't the gonna be anytime soon.

dont think a crossbow is really gonna extend your range any my crossbow and compound are both good out to 50-60 but theyll duck the xbow more at those ranges since its so much louder only real benefit of a crossbow is not having to make a draw and risk being seen

Fair points. I've got a good bow and in the hands of someone much better than me, I agree that it and a xbow would be close if not equal on max effective kill range. With my skill level though, I feel that it's just a smarter and more ethical approach to use the xbow.
