Well, I didn’t expect to see this here in Covington County. But, they are nuts to think the superintendent is the reason that there has been such a decrease in students resulting in the change from a 5A school.
Opp was a manufacturing town and when those sewing factories went away, the population dwindled. The other impact on numbers of kids enrolled was the introduction of components of the Common Core curriculum. There is a much larger number of home schooled kids around here than there used to be, too.
Our county has enough crap on our plate lately and don’t need this.
NAACP group forming, wants to oust super By Christopher Smith Email the author Published 12:31 am Thursday, September 13, 2018 An organizer of a new county chapter of the NAACP said his main objective for the group is to oust Opp’s school superintendent.
The group will meet this Saturday at 5 p.m., at the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, to complete requirements for a charter, Aaron Bogen of Opp said.
“We are trying get the superintendent from Opp removed,” Bogen said. “You know there is something wrong whenever Opp used to be a 5A school before the superintendent took over and now we are about to be a 2A.”
Opp was last a 5A school 19 years ago, in 1999.
Bogen said that the group has enough members to become a charter, but is expecting more members to join.
“We have a lot of people already members,” Bogen said. “But I expect to have at least 70 to 60 members.”
The meeting Saturday will only cover filling out forms that need to be sent out to become chartered, but Bogen said that they will have a meeting later on to try and get on the Alabama State School Board agenda.
The Covington County NAACP will also meet with the State Black Lives Matter Organization later on in the month, he said.
“They actually reached out to us,” Bogen said. “They really just called and want us to meet so they can give us on update on what they have been doing.”
Bogen said the group should have a Facebook page and Twitter account set up soon.
“We should have that set up soon,” Bogen said. “So we can release updates and news for the community and reach out to all the big news outlets.”
Bogen said that the group has a petition calling for the superintendent to be removed.

Good thing those black churches are never used as a staging ground for political maneuverings.

Divide and conquer.......with racism. That's the game they play.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Plus, the number of kids on free & reduced meals determines the amount of federal funding. So fewer minority students =less federal money.

Coosa county is in similar shape, going from 5A to 2A, but it's hardly the fault of the current super. Our doom was sealed when they decided to consolidate 3 good community schools into one big one in the middle of nowhere that nobody wanted to attend. I think it will soon be a 1A school, and there is nothing anyone can do to stop it.

Huntress why would you expect common sense from the NAACP? They are all about free stuff paid for by the working class. It doesn't matter if the working class happens to contain blks, just send us sum free monee!

Common Core curriculum - another reason kids are being pulled to private schools and homeschooled.

Exactly. Ride by one of them at 3pm on a Sunday. Parking lot is jammed and people parking on the road and everywhere they can find a spot. If you think they are meeting for 5 hours on a Sunday to worship the Lord the entire time, you're nuts. Dr. B

aint staughn high school right there too? I heard its one of the best schools in the country. Dont know how true that is Yes, Straughn is one of our county schools. It has grown, both by student enrollment and campus expansion over the past few years. Our daughter graduated from there in 2003 and the youngest son in 2014. The oldest boy graduated from Andalusia.

You Covington county folks ought to cover up the pastor of that church with phone calls asking him why would a man of faith let a racist hate group know as black lives matter in his church. Better yet show up for the meeting and ask.
The majority of black churches is the second most common place where the indoctrination of socialism is taught. First is public schools and universities.

^^^^^^That black "pastor" is probably a card-carrying member of BLM. Some of the most racist things you could hear all week come from the pulpits of black churches.

Plus, the number of kids on free & reduced meals determines the amount of federal funding. So fewer minority students =less federal money. I don't know the situation down there in Covington County, but wouldn't it be predominantly white folk abandoning the public schools to go to private and home schooling? If this is correct, it seems that there would be a *higher* percentage of minorities (blacks) in the public school and therefore more federal welfare money for the schools??? I don't know, but I would appreciate being informed on this and how it works. ********* And this is definitely a divide and conquer situation as always.
