Times have changed. Most utilities now wait out the storm from a safe distance and then go to work after it passes. That wasn't the case, back in the day, when we took dozens of line crews on the road show well before the hurricane. We would arrive ahead, or sometimes during the hurricane, and be ready to start work immediately. I can tell from personal experience that driving over the Dolly Parton bridge in 100+ mph winds is very exciting and one heck of an Adrenaline rush. Still that way outback. My little brothers is in North Carolina waiting it out couple miles off the coast with hundreds of others crews My nephew works for Pike Electric. At 9pm last night they were in Concord, NC awaiting to see which direction they will be needed.

Evidently somebody forgot to drop the flag before evacuation.

Overhyped by a long shot. I know they want folks to be prepared but the way they made this out, I was expecting NC to be blown off the map.

Fox News showed a picture from that camera with the Flag in the background and the water was up over the building and just below the flag pole. Can any of ya'll that were watching it verify that? If it's real that's unreal but It looked almost fake.

Overhyped by a long shot. I know they want folks to be prepared but the way they made this out, I was expecting NC to be blown off the map. Having been through hurricanes, I would rather it be overblown and end up fizzling out. And weather is not an absolute, they just try to do the best they can with the computers and information provided

I dont think its as bad as they say but if one person dies its bad enough for all the hype...i hope that doesn't happen and the weatherman look like a fool...i wouldn't want that on my shoulders..flooding can be very bad

They have a new flag up on the Frying Pan building this morning, I figured the whole thing would be gone by now but it looks like it made it through.

That thing could have just as easily turned into a cat 5 as a cat 2. Definitely. Some of y'all think that when they say four days ago "Cat 4" that it'll stay like that for a week. Chit changes. And getting hit by a train or a Camry is still getting hit. I'd rather be prepared and let down than not and then it ramp up and folks die. Why take a chance. And if anyone wants to stay behind, stay behind and then deal with it.

I bet every person in SC or NC that has suffered any kind of property damage or worse isn't pissed off because the thing didn't stay a Cat 4. It's easy to complain about it being overhyped while sitting 600 miles away in the sunshine.
Yeah, well, I always heard there were three kinds of suns in Kansas: sunshine, sunflowers, and sons-of-bitches.

I'd just to remind y'all that my wather dog's predictions (a week ago) were more accurate than all the meteorologists. Just saying.

I'm glad that it did turn out to be pretty much a dud. Spared a ton of people, a ton of property damage.
You really know what kind of a storm it is when the meteorologist is standing there holding his hat on his head in 20-30mph winds and pretending he can barely stand up, all the while talking about how hard the wind is blowing and that it's a super strong storm, while you see in the upper right hand corner of the screen, a 110 pound girl in the background of the shot, wearing shorts, a ball cap and a light rain coat, casually walking her 25 lb dog on a leash just 75 feet beyond where they are filming. I honestly just saw that on the weather channel update. LOL
