Times have changed. Most utilities now wait out the storm from a safe distance and then go to work after it passes. That wasn't the case, back in the day, when we took dozens of line crews on the road show well before the hurricane. We would arrive ahead, or sometimes during the hurricane, and be ready to start work immediately. I can tell from personal experience that driving over the Dolly Parton bridge in 100+ mph winds is very exciting and one heck of an Adrenaline rush.
My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal just sent this out: Based on the latest 11 a.m. forecast for the southward track of Hurricane Florence after making landfall and acting on a recommendation from @GeorgiaEMA officials, I have issued an emergency declaration for all 159 counties in Georgia. Read more here: https://gov.georgia.gov/press-releases/2018-09-12/deal-issues-emergency-declaration-all-159-countiesIt's a Declaration of Emergency for all 159 counties in Georgia, based on the latest forecast and tracking models.

Looks like it had a little bit of dry air mix in with the core. It will probably shrug that off tomorrow. Then it will blow back up on final approach. If she stalls before landfall, the major winds will stay well offshore. This storm definitely has the potential to be a Hugo if it makes a direct landfall. One thing is for sure....it will be a Florence.

The weakening is due to wind shear from an ULL, NE of Florida. Shear will decrease but the she will be slow to respond to the more favorable environment due to the sheer size of the storm.
The main threat, all along, has been storm surge and precip potential. Even at a high end CAT 2, the flooding threat is still very significant.

Last week I predicted that Florence would fizzle out or turn harmlessly into the Atlantic. Obviously that's not gonna happen, but it seems my forecast is still more accurate than the NHC and mainstream media hype.
