It's a hybrid between wheat and rye. We use the crap out of it cover cropping ahead of cotton and corn. Produces way more biomass than rye or wheat alone. As far as deer eating it I can't tell just never planted it in plots

We've been planting it in our plots for awhile now. Our deer seem to eat it pretty well.

I've never planted the stuff, is it worth the effort to find seed? I've been thinking about mixing a couple of bags with forage oats, but don't know anything about it. I know oats work. Never planted alone. It is one of the grains in outfitters blend from Biologic. Planted it a few years ago and grew fast. Deer loved it. I'm sure it's cheaper as a solo product.

Last year was our first planting Triticale. We used a blend from Wildlife Management Solutions that was Triticale and Black Oats. Very impressed with growth early on and how well it stood up to heavy grazing later in the year.

I plant a self made blend of Triticale and BFO and WMS Brassica blend and I have been very pleased with the results.

I like them Bc they don’t get tall in the spring like wheat oats and turkeys will use the fields more in the spring. Triticale and a legume is unbeatable.
