I've never planted the stuff, is it worth the effort to find seed? I've been thinking about mixing a couple of bags with forage oats, but don't know anything about it. I know oats work.

It's a hybrid between wheat and rye. We use the crap out of it cover cropping ahead of cotton and corn. Produces way more biomass than rye or wheat alone. As far as deer eating it I can't tell just never planted it in plots

We've been planting it in our plots for awhile now. Our deer seem to eat it pretty well.

Does it grow as easy as wheat and rye?

Never planted alone. It is one of the grains in outfitters blend from Biologic. Planted it a few years ago and grew fast. Deer loved it. I'm sure it's cheaper as a solo product.

Last year was our first planting Triticale. We used a blend from Wildlife Management Solutions that was Triticale and Black Oats. Very impressed with growth early on and how well it stood up to heavy grazing later in the year.

I plant a self made blend of Triticale and BFO and WMS Brassica blend and I have been very pleased with the results.

I like them Bc they don’t get tall in the spring like wheat oats and turkeys will use the fields more in the spring. Triticale and a legume is unbeatable.

Give me bout 15 more minutes, I was dreamin about beavers..........

I've never planted it. My rye gets 5' tall and turkeys are constantly in it all summer with their poults, protects them from the hawks. I wouldn't mind trying it, but I doubt deer are going to like it much more than plain rye and wheat. Nobody anywhere around here sells it. Not even in a mix.

I use it in our plots with winter peas and crimson clover. The deer keep it mowed down pretty good to about 4-6" till spring when other food sources green up then they tend to bed in it during the summer when it's about around 3ft tall since I leave it standing till fall when I bushhog and replant. This picture was mid March 2018 and was planted last week of August 2017 this is after the deer quit hammering it and it started to grow on up. Its around 2.5ft in the picture
