My daughter is a sophomore at Troy. Last summer before she moved I bought her a pistol and made sure she was comfortable with it. (She has shot guns growing up). It mainly stays in her car, but I told her I would be fine with her keeping it in her back-pack and taking it to class. I told her she could go to school anywhere, if she were to get expelled, but it's hard to do if some whack-o comes into class and shoots up you and all your classmates.
Now that she is in her own apartment, just off campus. There is a 12 gauge in the closet of her bedroom.
If Caitlyn Jenner can keep his wiener and be considered a woman, I can keep my guns and be considered disarmed!

My daughter went to UAB. She had mace and a stun gun that she carried all the time. She kept a .38 in her car all the time and sometimes would carry it on her in classes when she felt she was at an unsafe or night class. I will also say she loves shooting so she's pretty good at it.

get her something she will, and can, carry. When my sister went to Tulane I bought her a Beretta .22lr pop up pistol. Easy to use and easier to carry. Two er four 22lr bullets will go a long way to changing an attackers plan. I keep this gem in my pocket (22 mag) I had a Beretta 32 but I sold it... Dang, James. Did the dog gnaw on that grip?

The places she will likely be in the most danger she cannot legally carry and will depending on the daughter often be some variation of drunk. Pepper spray, charged cell phone and good friends will serve her better and keep her out of more trouble than a gun can get her out of.
I understand a firearm is the ultimate equalizer in situations but leaving the bar blackout drunk at 0200 a gun probably isn't the most effective tool. Can you please tell us these places she will likely need it that she can’t legally carry? Other than the stadium.

I carry one just like that, but mine wasn't eaten by the dog.

My youngest daughter, in Texas, carries a Beretta 22, plus a tazer and a mace key chain. She's proficient with the Beretta, but she's a lot more likely to use the mace or tazer.

I bought my wife, (girl friend at the time) a tazer when we were freshman together at alabama. stayed in her purse at all times, she eventually let her younger sister borrow it as well. Got drunk one night and decided to test and make sure it would work. and let me tell you that thing would put you on your ass quick.

In my initial statement I said, "Many of the places she will likely routinely go it isn't allowed and probably not advised." On campus, I know at Auburn(different school but same state) last I knew it wasn't allowed(school rules) but also wasn't illegal. I would imagine Alabama would be similar. I know some say F the school rules and that's fine but that could result in a loss of scholarships or other possible similar negative consequences. Downtown College bars, I think fairly safe to assume not allowed(bar rules), though legal I believe not certain. I'm of the opinion if someone is past their point of buzzed carrying a firearm is probably not advised. I am well aware you know the exact intricacies of the laws a lot better than I do but what I've said I don't think is completely out in left field but I could be wrong.

I agree about school rules not allowing the carrying of firearms on campus. I don’t know anyone who has tested the rules. But, it is t a crime. Also, I agree carrying when you are intoxicated isn’t the smartest thing. Especially for a college student. But, again not illegal. Bars, like any private property can forbid guns. But, it isn’t illegal to carry there. It is illegal under Alabama law to carry into the stadium.

Unless they physically check for handguns and weapons on campus I would put in my back pack and go about my business and always have an alibi if she needed it.
If she doesn’t visit bars I wouldn’t worry about that but I’m yhe event she decides to I would advise l aging it at the apartment and carrying mace or something.

I don't have a kid, but I would think the tazer and/or mace would be a better solution for a young female. Using again the Mollie Tibbets situation - first off, chances of her carrying her piece out on a jog are low. It sounds like the mexican was stalking her in some way before murdering her. Now, imagine if she had been armed, the guy hadn't done anything to her yet except stalk her, she panics and only thing she knew to do was to pull her gun and shoot him. Yes, she would be alive and there would be one less POS we have to worry about. But - she would be absolutely crucified by the media - WHITE CONSERVATIVE SHOOTS UNARMED IMMIGRANT FOR NO REASON. And she would probably get charged with some form of murder or man slaughter. Chances are if she waits until the point where shooting him is justified - waits until he attacks her - it's probably too late for a small girl like her. It's a horrible situation all around. Not to mention a lifetime of living with the memories of killing someone. As much as we like to act like tough guys, the taking of a life is something you never get over. I encourage my daughters to take a life if there's no other choice, but go to the other options first.
My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.

Mine does, Made her get her CCP , Ruger LCP . 380 I told her If she ever felt threatened enough to pull it, cock it, and have to aim to shoot it then by God Empty it / and we will worry about the rest later. Better to be Judged by 12 than carried by 6 and I can get her counseling for the guilt.
