I found a pretty good deal on a Remington 7600 chambered in .270. Been wanting one for a while and this one is too good to pass up (it’s used but is in good condition for $375). The barrel has been cut down as the previous owner had modified it for his wife. Already comes with scope rings but no scope. Looking to use this one for mostly stalk hunting or lettingy lady friend carry it when she hunts with me (will be using reduced recoil ammo for this one). Most if not all shots will be under 200 yards. The scope is a must since the front iron sight was taken off when they shortened the barrel.

What scope would you guys recommend for this setup? Not looking to break the bank but will spend a little to get something quality on the top of the rifle.

What's your budget? If you are in the $400 - $800 range, you can get used German glass pretty easily.

I’m thinking going the used route will work. Would like to keep it under 600. Looking at some used Zeiss scopes I think that’s definitely do-able.. Don’t need anything crazy, just clear and well defined crosshairs.

Used zeiss conquest or Swarovski z3 can be within your budget easily, check out eBay there are usually several to choose from there.

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

Be careful on the used Zeiss. Some of the Conquest models are Chinese counterfeit. West German Zeiss scopes are amazing quality. Here's a really nice one - MASH

Don't discount the German #1 reticle. Those usually sell a little cheaper, and are great hunting reticles.

Thanks guys! Gonna keep these ideas in mind as I shop around this week. Should have something in hand by this weekend.

I just traded in a Zeiss conquest hd5 2x10 yesterday. If I had seen this thread I would have offered it to you but the store gave me a good price.

All good. Honestly I wasn’t even looking to buy a rifle until I saw this deal. Just one of those things that when I saw it I knew I’d kick myself if I didn’t pull the trigger on it. As many good things as I’ve heard about Zeiss I figure that has to be the way to go. For what I’m using this rifle for, it’s all about clarity and being able to acquire the target and crosshairs quickly. Plus I want it to be easy for a “non-hunter” to shoot as well.

My favorite hunting scope is a Meopta 6x42 fixed power. The older I get the more I appreciate fixed power in the woods. Less moving parts, less to break, less to go wrong. Super bright in low light situations and plenty of magnification for 200yds and less. It's not a scope I would choose for a long range beanfield or powerline rifle but for a 7600 like you described it would be just about perfect.

Only the most recent HD series Conquests are German. The original Conquest series was contracted by Zeiss and made by Meopta, with a Made in the USA pedigree.

If you like the original Conquest scopes, also look at Meopta.

For someone with limited experience using a rifle scope, I would look at a scope having the most eye relief and biggest eye box available. I don't know exactly how to define "eye box" numerically, but you sort of know it when you see it. I would start with long eye relief and high exit pupil scopes. It's also important to get it mounted such that the person's length of pull works well the scope's eye relief. Some short statured/short necked/thick shouldered people just cant behind a scope mounted for another statured person. I know I have to mount my scopes further back than most to feel comfortable. Anyway just something to keep in mind for a rifle partially intended for a lady friend.

Good luck

I like the suggestions from others of Meopta or Leupold VX-3i scopes. If you can't find one of those you can afford I think the Nikon Monarchs have 4" eye relief as well.

Hard to beat a Leupold for the money. I got sold on them 30 years ago for the great optics and definitely the eye relief they give me. That's all I have on my rifles. Get you a VX2 or VX3 in 3x9x40 or 3.5x10x50 and rock on. Leupold is one of the few makers that I am totally brand loyal to.
