I got a Rivercane call from Gil Stacy of Savannah, GA about halfway through the season and used it to kill several turkeys. I posted about it several times back during the season. It works on the same principle as a wingbone or a trumpet, but it produces a softer call because it takes so little air to run it. There is a thread on Gobbler Nation where Gil tells exactly how to make them. It is nothing more than 2 pieces of cane with a faucet washer for a lip stop. I got some cane about a month ago and spent some time yesterday cutting it to length, though it needs to dry some more before I finish it. They really are simple to make. With me running one, it sounds like a young hen. I'm not able to make raspy sounds with it, but it does make a sound that is a little different than other calls. It seemed to work well on pressured turkeys because it's possible to be so soft with it. I made a test video in the house a few weeks ago, and was planning to go outside and make something that would be more professional, but I never got around to it. Here is the short video I made: https://youtu.be/9fVisnbxhvQ

She'll be a killer. Hard to judge suction type calls indoors. Amazing how they sounds 50yds + in the woods. I don't know why, but any sort of suction call sounds better from a distance, more so than other type calls. I have watched videos of trumpet makers with big time reputations that honestly sounded sort of underwhelming, but from a distance the same guy sounds really good. Frank Cox loves to ridicule people, but there is a video on YouTube of him using one of his trumpets outdoors, and I gotta admit that it sounds great. I heard a hen yelping from the roost near the end of the season in AL and I thought she sounded exactly like a Rivercane call. Others that are more raspy don't sound like it at all. When you are just an average caller, like I am, it's good to carry several different kinds of calls to mimic different sounding hens. The guys doing the Pinhotti videos are good enough with mouth calls that they don't need to fool with anything else. And I would probably kill the same number of turkeys just using a couple of mouth calls, but using different calls is part of the fun of the sport to me.

You gonna have to come to my house and shoot a round of redneck clays with me before I will give you one.

A live turkey could never win a turkey calling contest.
