I'm an odd ball on this. But, my wife is a teacher. She has a master's degree. I don't think she is underpaid. Now, could she make more in another profession with the same level of education? Probably. But, her benefits are worth at $15,000- $20,000 a year to us with insurance cost these days. Her retirement is better than most other jobs out there. Also, the time off cannot be matched. Now, it is not true that they only work 8-3 and get summers off. She has to be at work my 7:30 every morning (and if she is, she is later than normal) and she can't leave before 3:30 and usually doesn't leave until 4:30 or later. They really only get about 6 weeks off in the summer. (I know it is more than I have ever gotten)

But, bottom line, she makes, with benefits factored in, a good salary.

My thoughts exactly. Teachers are no different than any other state employee. They dang sure aren’t under-represented, all you hear down there is teachers and LE.

My wife also has a Masters and has been out to the school several days already getting prepared for next year. Deduct from her salary also the supplies she pays out of her own pocket because of the parent that will send their kids to school in $200 shoes and no supplies (yes, this was yesterday's Facebook Rant), and the insurance isn't that great. Most, if, they can afford to retire can't afford the sudden insurance rate hike to $900/mos. Teaching is not all that great, nor is it the worst job in the world. It is a calling.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

[b] He never stood up for teachers when they needed him. After he was elected Mayor, he started his annual “Mayors Pre-K Run” People thought how wonderful that is, honestly, it was a political stunt. When Paul Hubbard’s health started to decline, he personally asked Walter to take over AEA. Walter said NO because there were to many republicans in the Legislature, he didnt think he could get anything done. Is this who you want representing you?

I'm not campaigning for him here. I voted for Tommy Battle from HSV. I thought he was a reasonable choice.

Tell me a better insurance these days. Especially for the cost for family coverage. Even $900 is cheaper than most people are paying.

As for spending your own money. Yes, my wife has done that in the past. But, a lot of that depends on the system where they work.

I wont vote for Ivey based on her statements related to my pension and the fact she will not debate Maddox. She royally screwed my friends with the PACT program but for some reason no one seems to remember that. She hasnt done anything but reap the benefits of this economy and I am sick of ANY person who has been in politics for decades. If she was held accountable for the pact programs failure and flat out lies, she couldnt be at Roy Moore and he is for sure an imbecile.

I’m not a supporter of either but I can’t knowingly vote for someone I know will tow the Democrat party line. I can look over mistakes, we all make them but Walt doesn’t represent the majority of Alabamians views plain and simple.

Ivey is the worst kind of swamp creature. She is completely in the pocket of special interests and she is only a figurehead for the office. Her staff is handpicked by the interest groups and they set her agenda and will protect her, which is really to protect the special interest groups. But, she's the horse we've got so we might as well ride her because Walt is only trying to obfuscate his true liberal beliefs with half truths and political BS talk.

Fred you might wanna investigate her ties to the Koch brothers and how they want to change your defined benefit plan. Ivey is in bed with them, well their wives at least if you believe the rumors about Ivey. If you follow any of the Kentucky pension problems, see who helped start it all, Koch and their politicians.

You're in bed with some equally crappy people if you're in that farce of a facebook group.

Let’s start with 20 kids in a class. You have 45 minutes per day with those twenty kids.

Class starts. They all sit down. One kid won’t quit talking. It takes 5 minutes to calm the class down given there wasn’t a fistfight or some gossip worthy issue the kids won’t stop being distracted over.

Two of them are gonna be constantly distracting, and at least two will be dumb as a sack of hammers. One dumb kid will kill 15 min of teaching time pretty quick. The disrespectful and distracting ones won’t get any discipline if you write them up, because it’s insensitive to the kids. “They have a hard home life”

For the guys who are or who have ever been paid by the hour, you know what it’s like 10 min before quitting time.

When it’s all said and done, you’re expecting a teacher to manage time better than a NFL coach. At least the NFL coach only has to deal with 11 kids.

Fatty, the Kentucky pension is screwed ROYALLY! Who by the way screwed the teachers, police and fire?? The Republicans backed by Koch. The governor did a 180 on ALL his promises made before the election. Then they passed a pension bill in the middle of the night without any legal notice of the content of the bill piggybacked on a garbage bill! The court overturned the bill because it was done illegally by the Republicans. I am an independent and will vote conservative which is usually only a Republican. You however are crazy if you do not believe the same will happen here if Pew and Koch have their way in Montgomery. Montgomery has become more Corrupt and if you honestly think that Republicans are not bought and paid for by the lobbyist you are delusional. I will do like everyone else and vote for my future be it a Republican or a Democrat or a libertarian. Ivey ain't it no more than twinkle and the rest of the Montgomery swamp.

There are a lot of PACT members that won't vote for her. They have a strong Facebook group that regularly reminds its members how she screwed them and what she had to say about it.
