2 days ago my tree was covered in green, acorn sized figs, this morning as I looked out my kitchen window I thought I saw some brown ones and when I got home this evening I went to check and I have FIGS!!!!
Man I love these things. They're like candy to me. Late last season I figured out how to dry them and this year I'll dry all I can, vacuum seal them and hopefully have enough for the whole year!

Better get them quickly. Mocking birds will pick them before you do.

I got a tree in my yard too. They're still a bit green yet. But I do love some fig preserves.
My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.

Ours are still green but I figure within the next 3-7 days it'll go haywire. I need to learn how to preserve them.

I love em too. I'm gonna have to cut mine back to the stump this year. It's grown out of hand.

I ate a bunch off of BamBam's tree this afternoon. My three trees are still real young...they have figs on them, but they're still real green. BamBam's got a ton of pears on his trees, too...they're almost ready. Only thing on my trees right now is some figs, Fuyu persimmons, and a bumper crop of kumquats. Persimmons won't be ready until around the end of October, kumquats around the end of December, and I go back to work next week, so I'll likely miss the figs.

They're about the easiest thing to grow if you have decent soil, sunlight and enough water. Mine gets hit by the yard sprinkler a few days a week, is hammered by morning-midday sun and then shaded in the afternoon. I'll have to trim it back this year so it doesn't go haywire.
My wife's late grandparents had two side-by-side at their old house in Mungumry. I'd stand there and eat figs until I thought I'd puke because they couldn't get all of them and the birds or wasps would get them. When they died and the house sold, the new owners cut both to the ground along with the old pear tree in the front. Those three along with the big pecan trees were some doggone good producers.
I'd not thought about drying them. Will give that a try. Do you vacuum-seal them or store them in the fridge after they're dried?

Bag and freeze if you have enough. Pull out a small baggie to snack on.

Awesome, thanks. Didn't know they could be frozen.

Awesome, thanks. Didn't know they could be frozen. Don’t over dry them. About 9 - 10 hours at 135 is good.

I love fig newtons, never had a fig off the tree. I need to change that.
