Okay, I can admit it, I know nothing about internet speeds and such. I have been just about to pull the plug on satellite and go with Roku or something but today I got an offer in the mail for Spectrum cable. It’s offering me tv, a DVR, and internet for $39.00 per month, for 2 years with no contract or early termination fee. The internet is 300mbps. That tells me nothing. Is that pretty fast?

Is it up to 300, or guaranteed 300? Big difference. 300mbps is fast enough to stream anything you want with no lagging as long as you don’t have a bunch of other stuff taking up bandwidth.

It’s up to 300. Would they be able, or SHOULD they be able, to tell me a guaranteed speed? Also, how can I find out how fast my internet speed is I have now?

They should be able to give you a guaranteed minimum. Up to 300, but performing at 50 is crap.

It’s probably 39 each. They’ll do that then jack it up. I have high speed with two boxes, one of which is Dvr, and pretty basic cable package and it’s 106 a month.

Honestly I think I’ve cut my cable box on twice in the past 3 months. I’m using watching Netflix or Amazon Prime. It’s a rip off but come football season the DvR will be nice.

You'll probably see 300 down in the non peak hours and probably around 150-220ish in peak hours.....At least that is what i see

I guess it's all relative. If I could get 50 Mbps, I would be in high cotton. I can only imagine what 300 Mbps would be like.

I only get 10mbps and its the fastest offered for my location it is fast enough that i stream movies kids play games online with no lagging I would imagine 300 would be extremely fast almost to the point of being unnecessary.

Just be glad you aren't stuck with Hughes Net as your only option.
We finally dumped that worthless garbage.
Currently have no interernet at the house, but then we didn't have it with Hughes Net either.

i get 1.5 mbps, and 1.65 mbps on a good day. Which is just enough to stream movies with. One of the negs about living in the country.

You also have to make sure your hardware (wifi router) can handle the possible high speeds from the companies.

Spectrum = Charter

I'll share what I told the Charter customer retention supervisor when I canceled my service......." it doesn't matter how fast it is if it doesn't work at all."

We pay around $250 a month for a 300 Mbps service on a business plan. At home I'm paying about $50 a month for guaranteed 75 Mbps service but it typically runs well over 100 Mbps.

Just as many others are saying, you should be good to go even if you are down around 20 Mbps if you multiple folks streaming video content simultaneously.

I'd say that you are getting a hell of a deal. Any chance you accidentally added an extra zero to the speed?

300 Mbps is more than plenty. If it's cable modem - it's plenty. And as far as 2Dogs post - location matters as to whether it's going to suck or not.

That 300 mbps speed is the theoretical possibility of their network - odds of seeing that are the same as winning the lottery. I have charter and I usually see 80-90mbps down and 8-9 mbps up - I have a nighthawk router and with 5 smart tv's, xbox, playstation, 4 ipads, 4 phones, 3 laptops. I have not had any lag or buffering issues - you are not going to see 300 mbps unless you have fiber optic. I hate Charter but have been happy with their internet service.
