I'm having a house built and I am leaning towards a slab foundation. I wanted a package unit, but without a crawl space I know the duct would have to be run up the side of the house, which I not a fan of, so my question is this: The condensing unit will be outside on a pad and the indoor unit will be in the attic, how will the copper lines be run?

If you are getting a package unit, the whole unit will be outside, not in the attic. Split system would have outdoor unit, and either air handler or furnace in attic.

Uh, yea I know that, but like I said in the post, the ductwork with a package unit would have to run up the side of the house, and I don't want that so i'm left with a split system. I'm guessing the the copper lines would have to run up the side of the house.

they can run up the side of the house or thru a chase poured into the slab and up to the attic

Line set could run inside the void of exterior wall up to attic. It could run in a chase up the outside of exterior wall. I'd stay away from running it in the slab if air handler is in attic.

Yea, copper and concrete don't go well together. What if the air handler was in a closet?

They run the condensate lines up the exterior wall between the studs into the attic. Its not a bad idea to use a piece of 3" x 4" metal gutter downspout to run these lines in the wall to protect them and make it easier to replace in the future if there is a need.

pvc tubing is run thru the concrete and then the copper is fed thru this also allows you to rrplace the tubing in the future if needed. you dont just pour concrete over copper

I am on a slab and have a split unit. Heat pump is outside and air handler is in it's own closet inside the house. Lines from heat pump to air handler are up the side of the house inside a metal square custom made aluminum conduit (matches the soffets) made by the guy that put the aluminum and vinyl soffets in. The plastic drain hose from the air handler is in a PVC pipe under the slab from the air handler closet to the outside.

Oh ok, that makes sense. Thanks
