Right or wrong, the W is all that matters to keep the millions $$ rolling into their households. If a guy can provide the W, he's safe on the team. All coaches do it. Sumlin and Manzel, Fisher and Winston, Freeze and Kelly, the list goes on and on. How far would any of us to go keep millions rolling in?? The only difference between Saban and all other coaches is the other coaches come up with punishment and run it past the powers that be for approval. Saban tells the powers that be what the punishment will be. He 100% in charge and 100% responsible if things go bad. It might bite Bama one day but has worked so far.
