1994 Toyota Land Cruiser. Sluggish starting for about a month. I attributed this to it not being a daily driver although I tried to drive it every week or every other and the battery draining down. Now, it will not start or make a sound but the horn blows (alarm I guess) as if it's being stolen. I had the battery tested and said it was good, but I got a new one anyway. Didn't fix the issue. Had the starter checked although it was only 3 years old. It checked out good but they replaced it anyway under warranty so its now new. Didn't fix it. I'm stuck at what to look at next.

So, in summary. It won't make a sound other than the horn/alarm going off anytime you open the door, turn the key, etc.

If the battery, starter and I'm assuming solenoid are good, Is the ignition switch and the battery cables good too?

I checked the battery cables. They are all clean, etc. Not sure how to check the ignition switch.

The only way I have checked one is to switch the switch.

Maybe someone here knows how to run a jumper or something to check it.

Bad ground at the engine end of the battery cable. Or if there is ANY corrosion visible on the battery cables they can be eaten up real bad under the insulation. I chased one of these one time till I damn near went insane.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Have you checked all of the fuses?

That's exactly what I was referring to when I asked about the cable. I was ready to throw a pipe wrench through the windshield of my old 72 C10, when my son said, "Look at this cable Dad". I had cleaned the terminals but didn't think a thing about the cable itself. When I peeled the insulation back, it was covered up whitish looking with corrosion.

Same thing last month for me. Tightened the terminal to cable connection, problem no more.

Your security system is it a factory toyota or a dealer installed unit from toyota. I just had to fix my grnadwaw 97 rav4 that had a dealer installed security system they bought the rav new and last year it started doing the same thing as you mentioned , battery draining, then went to the horn blowing and flashers flashing like the alarm was going off at random times and all by its self then went to not cranking at all it wouldn't even turn over. Removed to security system since either was plug and play and it's been good to go
