It happend to my son to about 4 years ago.He was shooting a bow on 35 lb's.He was shooting a ACE Hyper Speed. There a aluminum wrap in carbon arrow.
When it broke it went thru his hand and mushroom on the riser and then cut in between his finger's .It took 13 stiches and two trips back to the doctor to cut it back open to dig all the carbon out. After the last trip to the Doctor he still had a lump on his hand and the DR. said it was scar tissue.well about 5 month later another piece of carbon over an inch long came out of it an then it went away!
He got to hunt opening weekend of bow season and the last weekend of gun season that year.I did not think he would ever shoot his bow again after that. But he does and I'm so thankful he still can!

I know quite a few people that has happened to...you are pretty dang lucky that was all you got. Like several people have posted it USUALLY comes from shooting groups. Brand new or not all ways flex your arrows to check for cracks. I usually will put it up close to my ear and bend it pretty good to listen. I saw one earlier this year break a few feet out of the bow...you could hear it as it was released and the seperation was a little spooky. Glad to hear and see it isnt too awful bad!

I posted a pic last year when this happened to me. Same exact spot.....mine went in to the bone. Spent 3 hours at the ER waiting for them to dig the carbon out. No stitches though. They said it was better for a puncture wound to heal from the inside out and not close with stitches.

If you do the things you need to do when you need to do them then someday you can do the things you want to do when you want to do them.

Dang man, where the hell is Estes? I thought this sort of thing only happened to cross bow shooters. Here it seems like several on just this site has had it happen to them. I can't wait for the next AB meeting. laugh

Sorry about your hand man, you are fortunate that it was not worse.

Man yall are starting to scare me. I'm just now starting to shoot carbons. Never thought of anything like that happening. I'll have to make sure the boys are BEHIND me and not beside me.

The harder I practice, the luckier I get.
