Hey guys. I’m looking for any tips and advice for pier fishing off the beach. Our condo has a private pier so I feel like I’ll spending a lot of time out on it

Can I do any good with bass fishing gear (spinning reels)? I’m looking for advice on line and tackle and bait options and rigging set ups. Thanks for any help!

I’m really just trying to keep it as simple as possible.

Spinning reel, circle hook, and you are set. I also like versa max corks because you can pop them on and off and change depth quickly and easily depending if you want to use a cork. If you can’t throw a cast net, you can catch baitfish with a small hook and pieces of shrimp, but a cheap 4-5’ castnet is easy to throw and you can catch plenty of minhaden and pinfish quickly. Hook the baitfish through the lip or back, cast it out free line, on the bottom, or under a cork and wait.

Sabiki rig works well for catching bait too.

Carolina rig with just enough egg sinker to keep your bait on the bottom. Fresh Dead shrimp on a kahle hook and throw it out.

Double popano rig, 2-4 oz weight, fresh sand flea, small piece of fish bite (pink or chartruese) on top of sand flea. Shrimp or squid will also get some bites. Smoked them in Destin last week with the sand fleas off the beach

Get you a straw or bubble rig. I caught the daylights out of Spanish on light weight tackle a few weeks ago at Gulf State Park pier. Easy and fun.

I did too last weekend. I couldn't believe it at first. Just a cut up McDonald's straw sitting on a treble hook below a cork.

Rinse all of your equipment with soap and water when you finish and especially the eyes on your rods. Yankee equipment and salt don't mix grin

This for sure. Don’t just give them a quick spray either. Soak them really good.

I always heard just to use water. The detergents in the soap strips the oil off also?

Just came from where you will be staying. That bubble works good, and I had good luck with the gotchya plug. Caught Spanish, reds and lady fish. Some other guy caught a trout but idk what bait he was using. I only fished with some live bait 1 day with no results. Bottom fishing with cut bail of your choice will bring in plenty of small sharks, catfish and every now and then something good. It's a nice pier, but very shallow. Couple of big shark and a big ray swam by last night, it was pretty cool. There is a kid who works in the fishing section at Bass pro in Prattville that has a lot of experience there and will right you up and give you some great advice so stop by in the way down if you get a chance

Sweet. Sounds fun. I’ll have to check into the bubble rig. What all species will that work with?
