We took a day's vacation on Friday and headed down to my old stomping grounds of Cocodrie, LA to show my boys, who have never caught a redfish, what all the fuss was about. We also had a buddy and his son tag along, as they had never redfished either.
To say that the fish were on fire on Friday would be the understatement of the year. We caught 50+ fish in <2 feet of water and the boys couldn't believe how those fish can pull. We kept our 7 man limit, and had 2 flounder, 2 puppy drum and a sheepshead thrown in to spice up the box. We were headed back to the dock by 11:00.
We were scheduled to go offshore for mangroves, red snapper and cobia on Saturday but that little disturbance in the gulf had the seas pretty choppy. We all decided to pile in one boat and let the boys have fun inshore again. The reds were a little slower but we managed to put 17 in the box and then went hunting for something that would make the drags scream. Each of the boys hooked into a big nasty (bull drum) with the biggest topping out at an estimated 40lbs.
All in all a great trip and a reminder of what I absolutely love about the marsh. I don't post pics here so if someone will PM me their number that wouldn't mind posting, I'd love to share a few.

Thanks for posting the pics, AC! BCLC, yes sir. Many great memories were made! MM, they are already trying to find the next dates that we can go back. There is truly nothing in the world that I've found that can compare to hooking one of those fish where there is nowhere to go other than straight away from you. They can't dive down because of the shallow water so it's an all out run away from you. wew, we fished with Tommy Pellegrin ( http://customchartersllc.com/Default.aspx) and had a second boat with a young guide, Brady Giroir. Both were excellent and accommodated us to perfection. The fishing has been better over in Dularge, so we made the short ride to the west and launched out of Brady's camp. And yes, the fishing in that part of the country is hard to beat. Inshore and offshore. Plenty of good restaurants there, and I'm guessing you might be thinking of Sportsman's Paradise and Ms. Connie, but that was straight off the grill here at the house tonight.

Well done and LA will flat spoil you. We threw a lot of white spinner baits and was always an awesome site to see a big wake going to it and then disappear. Those Black Drum filets looked great and sure they were tasty 7 ft all star and Citica was a fight Saturday with one of those beasts.

Thank y'all, it was a great trip! Alhawk, I'd much prefer to throw plastic all day as well. Of course helping the guide with baiting hooks, untangling lines, netting fish, etc. doesn't allow for a lot of fishing from me...but just one THUMP on that swimbait is worth it. The water was too dirty to sight fish so we were blind casting all weekend. The kids threw shrimp under a cork most of the time, but they did catch a few on plastic and once we got on them hot and heavy Friday, we took their corks off and made them fish shrimp tightlined. And yes, those big drums filleted right nice. I decided to keep all the worms in my filet for the extra protein. I'm still checking my calendar to see when I can make it down for you to put me on one of those gator trout I saw in a post earlier today.

That's awesome. My brother and his sons just got back from a trip down there. What are the fish in the last 2 pictures?

Thanks guys, it was a blast and we can't wait to go back. Good luck toothdoc. We had several that were 27.00001 but never could find that 26.9999" fish. Maybe we left them all for you and they'll swim to Delacroix for you. That's awesome. My brother and his sons just got back from a trip down there. [quote=FurFlyin] What are the fish in the last 2 pictures? Black drum Yes sir, correct. Great to eat up to about 20" but they get pretty dang nasty after that. One thing for sure, they will bend a rod when they get that big.
