WC is the most biggest single sport event in the world. Happens once every 4 years. Coming to North America in 2026. . Question............my understanding is the host country automatically "qualifies" for the WC. But the 2026 WC is a joint deal between the US, Canada and Mexico. Does that mean all 3 automatically qualify or is one of the 3 considered the actual "host country"?

Does that mean all 3 automatically qualify or is one of the 3 considered the actual "host country"? I don't know Gomer, good question. This is what I found. Will all three host nations get automatic qualifying spots? FIFA president Gianni Infantino has expressed his support for a joint bid, but there are no guarantees that each of the hosts will earn an automatic World Cup spot, as hosts traditionally do. The FIFA Council makes the final determination, which everyone associated with the bid acknowledged, but Gulati and Canada's Victor Montagliani made it clear they expect all three to earn spots. The 2026 cup will be the first to have 48 teams instead of 32. United States will host a large majority (75%) of the games.

It's 475 duzen times more bigger than the Olympics, Super Bowl and World Series combined Not bigger than the Iron Bowl* , The SEC Championship, or the CFP. * In the even AU wins, the Iron Bowl automatically supercedes any and all sporting events and is more valuable than three (3) National Titles.

Changed my mind. Watching Portgual-Spain. Hell of a first half. Ronaldo has two goals already.

World Cup soccer is for those places in the world that don't have College Football. You're right....let's watch college football instead of the WC. Out of curiosity, which college football games are taking place over the next 4 weeks? #DumbPostIsDumb

I realize it’s the most popular sport in the world for various reasons, but Good Lord it’s boring to watch.

I realize it’s the most popular sport in the world for various reasons There is ONE reason it's the most popular sport in the world....because it takes little to no money to play it. You need a ball, and a field. That's about it. No special weather required, either. Poor countries eat that crap up because they can't afford anything else.

I realize it’s the most popular sport in the world for various reasons There is ONE reason it's the most popular sport in the world....because it takes little to no money to play it. You need a ball, and a field. That's about it. No special weather required, either. Poor countries eat that crap up because they can't afford anything else. Soccer, or futbol outside of America, is not just for poor people although yes, it's easy for poor kids anywhere to play because they just need a ball and open space. Sorta like how poor kids played stickball back in the day with a broom handle and bottle caps, or a busted ball with tape. It's all relative to the times and locations. As for all those "poor" countries, soccer is their national sport. Portgual vs. Spain isn't just a match, it's their SuperBowl-Daytona500-WorldSeries-BCSwithBama Championship times a brazillion. Brazil v. Argentina, England v. Germany. The African and MidEast countries have their issues but thrive on sports as a national source of pride, be it soccer, cricket or whatever. The reason it's the most popular sport in the world is because more people in the world play it - in part thanks to the low expense to get started - than any other sport. I don't understand the rules, didn't play, our kids didn't play and I don't get it. But I understand passion and intensity and national pride, and that's fun to watch.

Ya'll have mentioned Cricket, I've tried to watch it a time or two and the rules dang sure didn't make sense to me. I know there has to be a lot more to it than what I saw. Try explaining American football rules to someone who is unfamiliar. Talk about complicated...

Out of curiosity, which college football games are taking place over the next 4 weeks? #DumbPostIsDumb I've been working for years in places that football/soccer is pretty much ALL thats available. I really tried to get into it but just never could. If you enjoy it, knock yourself out. I'd rather watch reruns of the SEC spring games or better yet the CWS.

I can't imagine watching spring football games. I'd rather gouge out my eyes with butter knives.
Which is what's great about sports and today's opportunities on TV and the web. We can all watch our stuff.

passion. that's the key word here. y'all bloody well understand the passion of the iron bowl, auburn/georgia, alabama/lsu. that's the way is with national and international futbol. if you don't want to take the time to understand what you're seeing, fine and dandy. for those who have made the effort to understand the rules, and appreciate the skill involved, it is great entertainment. ronaldo makes something like $121 million a year. one can understand why, after watching his performance friday night. that's futbol. messi is paid $90 million plus. he had 10 shots on goal saturday morning, and couldn't buy one with his millions and trememdous skills. it just was not his match. that's futbol.
it's entertainment, y'all, sporting entertainment. basketball is paint drying to me, as is baseball. i played both. playing is 50 tons more fun than watching either one. college football: it is still my second favorite, near about equal with world class futbol. another thing about futbol: match is over in two hours, period. might go 15 minutes long with a shootout, but that's it. no commercials. no times-out. nothing but action, accept for 15-minute half-time ...

I always admired the physical shape they are in. The run all the time. The Last Of The Mohicans. That guy ran everywhere he went.

Top players run up to 9-10 miles in a match and may play a couple a week not to mention training. Physically, I'd probably put top world soccer players and Olympic-class swimmers in the top tier. Swimmers, physically, are friggin' beasts.

amen, clem. speaking of being in shape, i wish american football would go back to one platoon. parity really would be possible with rosters so much smaller. players would be lighter, quicker overall, less apt to be injured, and pure athletes would get to show off all of their chops.
