I bought a spear in early 200's and hunted with it a few times. I practiced a good bit with it and it would destroy a target. I would love to have seen what it would have done to a deer but I never had the opportunity to throw it.
What’s the effective range on a spear; probably based the strength of the person?
I never release (throw) mine, I either pounce on them from above or the side and plant it firmly in them. I have tried for deer but they always “jump the string” (me).
Ask doekiller what happens when you get within arms reach of a pissed off wild boar. He won our last hog slapping contest in union Springs.
I was tracking a deer for a guy last year that he had shot with a bow. The only issue was that he had also shot a big arse hog as well in the same spot about 15 minutes after he shot the deer and he couldn’t find either one. It was just outside of Union Springs in Three Notch and we were in a sea of sage brush and scarcely scattered pines.
Well…..sho nuff when we start trying to track we got on the hog blood trail instead of the deer trail and a few hundred yards later Otis got a 250 pound pissed off boar up out of the bed. The hog broke bay pretty quickly and came running straight at me just not knowing that I was there. Like I said, we were out in a sea of sage brush so there wasn’t anything around but some volunteer pine saplings. My instincts told me to shimmy up a tree….. so without even thinking I jumped up and started trying to climb one of the saplings. Thank God that my panicked movements scared the hog and turned him because I never made it more than about 3-4 ft off the ground. I was bear hugging the chit out of that pine sapling though.
As far as the CAB outlawing spear hunting……I’m glad to see that they’re using their time to deal with the real issues around the state……

Indeed. These folks don't mind tackling the serious issues at all.

I'm sure Gamecheck has those statistics. Sarcasm. I do know of an accomplished hunter in Baldwin County that killed 1 the first year they were legal and 2 the following year.
