A tax refund doesn’t add to what you make, it gives you back what you have paid. So, it isn’t going to increase your income and certainly isn’t going to make someone who makes $30,000 all the sudden make $40,000

There are plenty of people on welfare programs that pay zero in taxes and get a generous tax "refund" at the end of the year. You don't have to pay taxes to qualify for certain credits that can result in a refund.

Exactly. The earned income credit, for example, pays a person a generous "refund" for not paying any tax.

The largest credit I know of is the $2,000 child tax credit. I guess if one household makes 30,000 and has 5-7 dependent chillens, yeah, they could make $10,000.

What type of work do you do? Im just curious.

Run a tire and automotive shop. Oil change/tire guys make around 32k plus, bcbs ins, matching 401k 3% + 1/2 over 3%, up to 3 weeks vacation, uniforms ect. Plus I will pay for any training they want. Both of my mechanics started out on oil changes and now make over 50k.

Exactly...You make 30k..you pay $7000 in Taxes through weekly deductions.

The government decides you only have owed $3500...they REFUND you $3500 out of the $7000 they have already deducted weekly.

That is why it is called a REFUND. So out of that $30,000 in income you PAY $3500 in taxes..meaning you only made $26500 AFTER taxes. The $3500 they REFUND you was yours that they deducted previously.

Yep...it is a joke. It is Wealth Redistribution. People who PAY nothing in getting a REFUND. It does not even make freaking sense.

If you are single with no children you can’t have an adjusted gross income over $15,000 to get an earned income tax credit, married $20,000 and you only get $500. If you have one child, the limit is $40,000 but you only get $3,400. You are not getting $10,000 tax credit return on $30,000

Of the 40+ tax years I've filed in my lifetime, I've never seen anything remotely close to a $10,000 refund!

I keep hearing about how great the job market is and how under our current leadership in Alabama there are jobs aplenty, yet the two year college system (a world I know much better than other work areas) is downsizing us left and right. 22 full time employees were dismissed last year at our college in a big downsizing, and Bevill State CC is threatening about the same number this year. You can't claim to be a "jobs administration" when you're putting so many folk out of work.

No just a high volume shop. Busy days I run 40+ cars with 4 guys in the shop.

I think the title of this thread needs to be "More jobs available than people willing to work" When I left the world of management I had to hire 5 to get 1 and sometimes it was worse than that. The two biggest problems I had with workers were

1 Employees not working when they got to work

2 Employees not showing up on time

Has it changed any since then?

Y'all are doing good then. I worked at an oil change in high school, and the numbers I saw every day weren't near enough to cover that kind of payroll. Must be a lot of mechanic work.

No. And when you're dealing with subcontractors it's even worse.
You'll waste had your time showing jobs, over and over, because the subs don't show up or don't do what they were contracted to do.
