Has anyone read the article on National Geographic about how much damage straws are doing to the environment. Do not know how to post link but can be googled. There is a push to end the use of plastic straws because the discarded ones are killing so much marine life. I would bet the same people complaining now were the same ones saying not to cut trees and save the planet. Seems like using paper grocery bags would do more than eradicating straws. I wish I had time to worry about the straw and its cruel intentions to the earth.

I use them to make my own bubble rig. As y’all know the plastic straw has been hell on marine life for awhile.

I drew blood on a guy one time with a plastic straw.

Let em bitch about straws, they'll give guns a break.

For us folks that don't fish for spanish mackerel would one of you care to explain what you're talking about?

Works just as well on Chicken Dolphin too.

Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

Well I went with friends once who did this:

1. Take McDonald’s straw and cut a piece about 2” long.
2. on this piece cut an angle of about 45 degrees on one end.
3. Thread a leader through this piece of straw with the angled side toward the hook.
4. Troll this behind the boat, driving through the places where birds are diving. Catch all the Spanish Mackerel you want.

It aint just straws, its plastics in general. Look up pacific garbage islands or gulf plastic beaches on your googles. I am trying to make an effort to curb my use of plastic products in general. But yes, you can catch a boatload of Spanish macks with straws. laugh

We hit a weed line about thirty miles out last year during snapper season. We had limited light tackle on the boat but I had some jig heads in my tackle bag and we had a couple of spinning reels. So we cut up a bonito and started working the weed line. We got on chicken dolphin and was wearing them out. The boat was a mess! We eventually ran out bonito and they would hit just the jig head. We left one on the line up close to the boat and as soon as you threw out they would swim towards the jig head and hit before the hooked fish would. We cleaned over seventy that afternoon.

I heard a radio report that these straws "kill whales" and my first thought was the stupid yammering about how lead shot from waterfowl hunters were killing birds. Then we had to go to steel shot, which IMO did more to wound and create sufering waterfowl than any lead shot did on other birds.

What a bunch of overhyped, crybaby liberal horsecrap.

It's not enough to show the giant trash vortex swirl or whatever it is in the ocean that apparently with our incredible human knowledge and resources can't be cleaned up. And I get that plastic in the waterways can harm wildlife - hell, I don't like it and don't mind at all that Cali and NY are banning plastic bags and may do so with straws. I hate plastic bags personally and wish they were gone; paper bags are fine or just take your own bags for your smaller grocery purchases.

But telling me straws kill whales? No, I'll ignore you outright. That's too much and no one in the liberal MSM says, "Hey, that's stupid" to challenge it.

They do work great on Spanish, though!

Yup I am trying to do similar(when it makes sense). I've found I prefer taking my stainless steel cup into fast food places over using their provided cup or using it over plastic water bottles.
