I experimented on a cape mount for a buddy of mine and it turned out great!!! I wish I had killed this bird. He’s a stud!!

I killed my first Rio this year on a trip to Oklahoma and I’m doing him this same way. I love these cape mounts with the wings!!

So how are you preserving the meat in the wings?

How do you keep gravity from pulling the feathers down?

I remove the whole main wingbone and as much meat as possible, then use a taxidermy preservative (I think it’s primarily nothing more than borax) to preserve all of the remaining meat and skin...This powdered preservative will dry everything up within a couple of weeks’ time (unless it’s terribly humid)

As long as the feathers are attached to the skin, they will stay like you want them...I use 8 penny nails to tack the skin to the wall (2 nails through the base of the fan, then work your way down)
