I think the video above just reinforces the fact that them plastic guns are trash. If my gun jammed up in under 5 minutes at the range and I had to replace parts, I'd be pissed. Then it jammed again a second time with the new parts added. In about 10 minutes time that fellers gun stopped working twice. Keep them plastic guns for the girls and children.
You do realize that guy put a few thousand rounds down range before each of the malfunctions, right? A 1911 would have had a failure before a thousand rounds of continuous fire. You wouldn’t have had to replace the guide rod, but it would have had to be stripped and cleaned. The Glock, once a stainless guide rod is installed, will keep going for thousands of rounds until the polymer lower heats up enough to jam the slide. No one is going to put that many rounds down range at one time, but I like to know that if I’m in a situation where my life depended on my pistol, that it won’t jam up because it got dirty. Like I said, I love 1911’s and used to despise Glocks. The fact of the matter is, Glocks are more dependable than 1911’s. I wasn’t a firearm instructor in the military, but I was a Gunners Mate and my job was working on guns. But honestly if the SHTF, I would probably have a single action revolver on my hip.

I agree. Glocks are tougher and more durable weapons that will fire in a host of environments including mud, sand, water, etc..... IMO the 1911 is superior in the safety department. I just chose the 1911 because I like safety aspect and if I have to shoot someone it's going to be in a parking lot or in my house (intruder) and there probably won't be any beaches or muddy swamps in the equation. For that reasoning the 1911 is for me. Both have pros and cons and both can accidentally discharge in the hands of someone not qualified to use it.

Outback would loose it if his neighbor had a pit bull named Glock.

I don't doubt your conclusions, but I'd like to see a side by side comparison.

You guys are making someone's point out there today that "all guns are dangerous"...... I like all guns! If the Springfield xd was a tad lighter I'd be toting it. I kinda like the grip safety, but until then the Glocks are hard to beat.

The rear safety of the 1911 would be depressed if you are putting it in your holster so there for it would be more unsafe than the glock due to no trigger safety. That is if you are making the argument of the grip safety on a 1911.

Watch this video. A 1911 would never spit that many rounds out without a failure to cycle. The polymer guide rod in a Glock could be considered the weakest link. It was the first thing to fail in that test. I replaced the guide rods in both of mine with stainless ones. I love 1911’s, but for reliability in the harshest most extreme conditions, the Glock wins hands down. You don’t have to keep the innards spit shined for it to function properly.
Did the gun not misfire at the 4:40 mark in that video with out his finger on the trigger?

Agreed. Lets blame the gun again for what the operator did...
Wrong. No it isn't. TRaditional double action. First shot is double action then it it goes to lighter single action trigger pull. That's why it has a decock lever.

Yep, it cooked the round off. Completely different.

I don't have a thing against a Glock but I had one when I was younger and sold it when my kids came along. I just didn't want a weapon in the house that could be fired simply by removing it from the holster and pulling the trigger. I carry a 1911 because I have several features that can keep a child from firing it. Hammer down when at home (hammer back when not at home), the safety, and the grip safety. A kid cannot simply pull a 1911 out of a holster and go to blazing like he could with a Glock IF it's stored properly. There have been accidental discharges from pretty much every firearm ever made, but Glocks are so far in front in that category it's really not even a debate.
In the hands of a trained individual who knows what they are doing (like Troy) and handle all guns with the utmost care, the difference between the 1911 and the Glock is pretty negligible.
In the hands of someone careless and inexperienced, the Glock is far more dangerous for accidental discharge.
Unfortunately out of all gun owners, ask yourself which category you have more of.
To each his own though..... if you want to carry a Glock you have your reasons and I'm all about it. They are a hell of a tool. I simply got rid of mine because I had small children in the house and at that age I didn't trust them around it. When they got old enough to understand and knew dad would beat that tail if they even looked at it wrong. I've never had an issue and to my knowledge none of my kids has ever touched my Kimber.
Do you own any revolvers? Or did you sell those when your kids came along? And i don't trust a small child around any firearm (safety or not) period. So that's why i keep all mine out of reach of small children (and stupid adults)
Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many!
