Glocks are the most reliable pistols for unreliable conditions.

If left one in a boat overnight, soaking wet, covered in fish blood and river silt. All it took was wiping down the three parts it takes to strip it. For me, it’s the consistent simplicity of design.

Fred says glock so that pretty much the end of the debate! I will continue to tote the glock until Fred tells me to tote something different.

What kind of Berretta? I carried a 92F before we went to Glocks, and I bought my Berretta when we traded them in and it has a mechanical safety on it. In fact I'm looking at it as I type this.

Were it not for the fact that all Glocks cut my hand between my thumb and index finger when I shoot them, I'd still be carrying one.

Side boy will admit a ghost trigger, springs, and upgraded sights can make that polymer turd shine. Add a drop in barrel in the mix and you've got yourself a mighty fine shooter.

Side note: I always wondered if a Glock would hold up to pistol whipping a fella like a steel framed pistol. PawPaw Troy you ever had to give anybody a noggin' flogging?

twice, but I used a Rem 870 both times. That hard buttstock to the jaw takes the fight out of them. Both guys were armed with rifles, one had shot at me, the other had shot a deputy. Note: never let me get inside three feet of you when I have a shotgun in hand. Damn any handgun for real fighting.

I carried 96G .40 that only had the decock. Different than 92F Jawbone. 96G has decock lever only no safety. A decock lever is not a safety. Pull the trigger it will go bang.

I carried a 96G for a while, issued by the state. Decock, no safety. It pointed like a boat anchor so I carried a S&W Sigma because the dept wouldn't allow a glock or a 1911. slap

Watch this video. A 1911 would never spit that many rounds out without a failure to cycle. The polymer guide rod in a Glock could be considered the weakest link. It was the first thing to fail in that test. I replaced the guide rods in both of mine with stainless ones. I love 1911’s, but for reliability in the harshest most extreme conditions, the Glock wins hands down. You don’t have to keep the innards spit shined for it to function properly.

I don't have a thing against a Glock but I had one when I was younger and sold it when my kids came along. I just didn't want a weapon in the house that could be fired simply by removing it from the holster and pulling the trigger. I carry a 1911 because I have several features that can keep a child from firing it. Hammer down when at home (hammer back when not at home), the safety, and the grip safety. A kid cannot simply pull a 1911 out of a holster and go to blazing like he could with a Glock IF it's stored properly. There have been accidental discharges from pretty much every firearm ever made, but Glocks are so far in front in that category it's really not even a debate.

In the hands of a trained individual who knows what they are doing (like Troy) and handle all guns with the utmost care, the difference between the 1911 and the Glock is pretty negligible.

In the hands of someone careless and inexperienced, the Glock is far more dangerous for accidental discharge.

Unfortunately out of all gun owners, ask yourself which category you have more of.

To each his own though..... if you want to carry a Glock you have your reasons and I'm all about it. They are a hell of a tool. I simply got rid of mine because I had small children in the house and at that age I didn't trust them around it. When they got old enough to understand and knew dad would beat that tail if they even looked at it wrong. I've never had an issue and to my knowledge none of my kids has ever touched my Kimber.

I think the video above just reinforces the fact that them plastic guns are trash. If my gun jammed up in under 5 minutes at the range and I had to replace parts, I'd be pissed. Then it jammed again a second time with the new parts added. In about 10 minutes time that fellers gun stopped working twice. Keep them plastic guns for the girls and children. wink

This exactly. To the detractors making comments about lack of safety, a safety is a mechanical device that can fail. One of the top rules of gun safety is never put your finger on the trigger until you are ready to fire. I know what I'm talking about unlike some on this site. I was a Glock armorer and am a Glock certified instructor. It won't going bang unless you pull the trigger. I was an LEO and a law enforcement instructor experienced with Beretta and Glock neither of which has a mechanical safety lever. I never had an accidental discharge. Many a high risk traffic stop and my Glock only went bang when I made it go bang. During my time we only had 1 accident on the range due to an idiot LT not keeping his finger off the trigger. Only accident because of an idiot. Training teaches you to keep your finger off the trigger unless you're going to fire your weapon. It's not the Glock. It's the idot carrying the Glock.

Gosh, I ain't got anywhere near that kind of expertise.
I was just a range safety officer and taught weapons tactics, in the navy.
For some odd reason, in my military records, it says weapons expert.
However, we didn't use Glocks. I wonder why?

Probably cause Glock didn't give the right congressman enough $$$

The military is smarter than the average joe, their weapons have some form of safety on them.
