We are in Pell City, AL and the soil temp is in the mid to low 60s. My Okra is really slow getting started this year. We have planted twice in the last 30 days and still have only a few starts. We used the same bag of seeds last year and they did great. Any suggestions?

Too cold and wet for okra to do well, it wil go when the temps get up more. I never plant okra till at least May 1.

You can get okra to sprout quickly by putting the seed in a jar of warm water, but the ground is probably too cool for it to do well.

An old farmer told me you don't plant okra until the old lady complained about it being too hot in the house. Mind you, that was back in the day when folks didn't have air conditioning.

Yep, it has been too cold for okra.

Be kind to one another and tell the ones you love that you love them often. We never know what tomorrow will bring.

Will I have to reseed or will it come up now that it is warming?

wait and see, it won't hurt to wait to plant okra. Plant early...plant late..it all comes up at the same time. I'll plant mine in another two weeks.

If the seed are good it should come up. Mine is starting to come up and it has been two weeks.
