What a tragic day it was. I know many lost more than possessions and homes. Let us not forget those that lost everything but also the first responders and everyone that has helped get this state back to what it is today.
Ya'll are just overthinking it now

Terrible day, I met a guy this week from N. Mississippi that he and his Brother both lost there house and their Mother was also killed. He lost his business and all of his Co. trucks forcing him to go to work for a partner of mine.

I hope no one ever deals with devastation on that level ever again. Lots of lives changed that day. Same thing was said after April 3 1974. I expect it to happen again.

My wife was in Tuscaloosa that day. She lost several friends. I thank god that she made it out ok.
My Prayers go out to those that may be going through tough memories today.

The weather channel had a show on Wednesday night marking it’s anniversary.
I’ll never forget some of the things I saw this storm do to schools like Hackleburg and Phil Campbell just to mention a few. Sod completely removed from the earth on a football field. A concrete stadium that looked like someone took a shot blasting machine and just sprayed it to no end. Buildings completely missing.
Continued prayers for all the families that lost love ones that day.
BTW 2 dogs found a laminate menu from a Birmingham cafe on his property after the storm.

From James Spann: ON THIS DATE SEVEN YEARS AGO: A generational tornado outbreak for Alabama. A total of 62 tornadoes, responsible for 252 deaths and over 2,000 injuries. The loss of life came despite excellent and timely warnings for every tornado; we learned that day that physical science is not enough. We need to weave social science knowledge into the warning process, which is happening now. This day will haunt me until the day I die. For us in the weather enterprise, it was our finest day, and our worst day. We continue to mourn the 252 precious people that died April 27, 2011. Never forget.
The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life. Job 33:4

I had several big jobs scheduled in Anderson Hills/Harvest that day. I cancelled and rescheduled them. A week later when I finally made it to that neighborhood it looked like bombs had been dropped.

I hope no one ever deals with devastation on that level ever again. Lots of lives changed that day. Same thing was said after April 3 1974. I expect it to happen again. I was 17 and vividly remember that one as well as 2011. That's the only 2 times I ever saw the clouds have orange, green, sorta purple and the regular colors mixed in and just constantly rolling in a boiling like manner.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I worked the storm restoration from the F4 that went across lake Martin. I was at the house where two women died in the basement. I don't think any basement or storm shelter could have saved anyone in the direct path. There was absolutely nothing left, like a giant vacuum cleaner went through. Even grass was pulled out of the ground, absolutely nothing was left. It looked as if the giant vacuum cleaner went into the lake on one side, and came out on the other side. I've seen 30 years worth of natural disaster all over the country, and never seen anything like that destruction.
My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.

Spann shouldn't be so hard on himself.
We had plenty of warning that day that it could be very bad.
I know I will never forget the sight of pleasant grove. Horrible day. My best friend from work. His parents home in Pleasant Grove was completely destroyed. The only way they survived was to get in the most fortified space in the basement in the alcove formed by the front porch and put a mattress over them. The only thing left standing was the cinder blocks that were below ground level.

April 27, 2011.........I was the Calhoun County EMA/911 Director. The responsibility was overwhelming.....and I already been in Public-Safety for over 23 years. I thought I had seen everything by then. The amount of sheer destruction, the loss of life, homes and jobs still haunts me today. I still see the hurt in family members eyes, the amount of grief felt as we notified them of the loss of a loved one. I watched with pride as over 50 different agencies responded and worked tirelessly through the night. I remember it clearly, blue lights, red lights, constant sirens, chain saws, heavy equipment and smell of wood, smoke, diesel, radio traffic never ending.
The flow of never ending volunteers, we could never repay that debt of service they provided. My wife, who is a Nurse Practioner wanted to ride with me three days after the event took place. I still remember the tears she cried that day, even with forty years in the medical profession she had never seen anything like it.
After 30 years I am retired but my life was changed that day. I not sure if it was for the better or worse. The image never goes away....
