As said before, file the report with the local LEOs. As soon as they enter the tag number in the states system all the vehicle info will pop up. It will also show them if the vehicle is insured or not. Let them deal with the driver who left the scene and they will get you the insurance info when they file the crash report(if the ins co need one). My money is on a kid and they were scared chitless and told daddy some bullchit story.

This happened to a long time ago. I was 15 and Five state troopers drug me outta the house and tossed me in the wagon. That was a bad day.

I do not agree. We scored 2 runs off a hit and run in our baseball game last week. Runners on 1st and 2nd. Putt on the hit and run both scored with a single to right field. It did hurt the other team. Helped us 10 run them. I thought it was a great call by coach.

My son had someone hit his truck in a UA parking deck. He called the cops, they came out and did a report went back and pulled all the cameras. They found where he backed into the truck, went up two more levels and parked. They couldn't make out the plate number but the cop made it a personal mission to find the owner. He drove around for 2 weeks and found the kid and his truck. He got charged with all kinds of crap including leaving the scene of an accident. It was fairly easy to recover the cost once his Dad was notified by the judge and given the options we had on charges.

This what happened to my wife and she had a partial tag number and the color of her he car. She filed a report. The police found the owner info and went by the house and the kid was there by his self and he lied to them about what happened and they left. They went back later and the grandmother was there and not him and they told her that her car was in a hit and run. She was pissed. He told her someone hit it in a parking lot. She went and got him and took him to the police station herself. In the end their insurance took care of it.

In a case of karma, the owner of the offending vehicle lives 2 doors down from my brother.

To your question about suing an unknown person or entity, there is a way but you must have at least one named defendant listed on the complaint..then you can list "Fictitious Defendant B, C, D, etc..." to include any other possible unknown or not yet identified parties with the nature of their involvement. Naming fictitious parties is like a "placeholder". Discovery from named defendant will often give information on other parties to be named and added later (Fictitious defendants) so an amended complaint can be filed within applicable rules of civil procedure and statutes.

We deal with this all the time. Builder is named, but subs or other parties may not be known or have enough information to officially name and serve. So plaintiff's attorney will include a number of fictitious defendants that may be later identified and then named, served, etc.
