Where is the closest place to Cullman/Arab to get a live edge slab of maple or black walnut ready to use as a bar top? It don't have to be those two choices but that was the top 2. She will settle for cedar or others if she has to. The kitchen island was planned for 10 ft so min 10 ft and 12 would be fine. The width is unknown at the time but we are checking with the cabinet guy. It will be a normal kitchen island.

You will have trouble finding ONE slab wide enough for a island, you could join two slabs with live edge out.

Don't know if it's close enough but Roy Lumber in Bessemer could probably get that for you.

Like already mentioned, its gonna be hard to find a slab big enough to cover bar. How thick does it have to be?

check any local small time milling operations. Check Craigslist also.

thickness needs to be around 2" or better.

Wouldn't it need to be dried with a special process? If so do most local mills keep the dried product? This is my first rodeo with slabs other than crappie and concrete slabs.

I bought a live edge mantel for my fireplace. It is cedar, 4 inches thick and it was 10 ft long when I got it. The widest point was around 20 inches. I paid 75 dollars for it at a local sawmill.

We wanted an Oregon Myrtlewood live edge and had to get some slabs pieced together. Had one long live edge backed by several smaller pieces. Didn't want to mess with wood next to the sink, so had a composite top cut to match the shape of the island.

Last time I was in Southern Accents Architectural Antiques in Cullman they has several live edge slabs for sale. They also have salvage and reclaimed lumber at a good price.
