This afternoon and it was fun! I got to seriously spend some time hunting with it.

Traditional stuff is a lot of fun. I just wish I didn't suck so bad at it.

You will get it. With traditional bows you have to practice all year but your accuracy will come over time, just have to have a desire to shoot traditional.
I've never shot a compound but my son has...he says trad is more mental to him.

stick bows are easily 100X more fun to shoot than compounds.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Just a Samick, nothing fancy, but they’re good little bows for the money.
I’m gonna shoot more this week.

They are great bows. Honestly, I like the way my Sage shoots better than a lot of custom bows I've had.
They don't have the cosmetic finish but my Sage is dead in the hand and quiet...that's the main things I want in a bow.
I have a Mountain Muffler string on it.

Aint nothing wrong with a compound but for me a trad bow is adaptable to hunting situations, but I have to practice all year..lol

Get a AMS reel and a fish arrow and hit a few backwaters... killing fish at short range is fairly easy, and if you catch the carp spawn right, it's a target-rich environment. It's a great way to get a little live action with a tradbow, and you don't have to be the best shot to wade-shoot carp at 3 - 5 steps. I've got a nice one I'll sell you that is just sitting on a shelf in my closet....

Probably could get a pinwheel 5 on an owl with a recurve.

The best thing about shooting traditional gear is The Rob can wear his loin cloth while shootin' his recurve and everyone acts like it's normal. But they do tend to look away if it's windy. Guess they don't like seeing that much "greatness". thumbup

Learning to shoot the recurve is teaching me things about how to shoot my compound better, which is making shooting my compound more fun.

Shooting a recurve is great excercise too. All that walking, looking for arras helps burn calories. smile

Sometimes I miss so badly I don't even attempt to find the arrow. I believe I've missed the earth a couple of times.

I do have a blob target. Actually have my newer blob target setting on top of the old blob target with bag targets on either side.

Like I said, I've missed the earth a couple of times.

We may be talking about 2 different things. My blob is almost the size of the side of a shed. I’d always wanted one and AMB went and got a truckload of em last year. I got one of the extras.

Maybe you’re catching to much draft from the loin cloth.

If you really want it to be magical use a loin clothe with a mojo bone tied around your neck and a coon tail from a coon harvested on a full moon...lol

Hmmmm.......wait a minute, you wear dresses already.

It will have to get a lot warm if The Rob is going to wear a sumo thong. Loin clothes are drafty enough.

If you have the area, buy you a hay bale for $30-40 and shoot at it. Get close enough you don’t even have to worry about where the arrow is going and just work on form. It’s not easy to pick up a stick bow and go to town though. I had it a little easier because I learned on one, so I don’t have that point in time where I switched and had to retrain myself. Anyway, just pick it up and shoot 5-10 shots a day and you start feeling more comfortable with it.

Indeed, what you describe is what I refer to as "blind bale" practice and it does ingrain the anchor points and shot execution without the added complication or temptation of aiming.

I setup a plain bag target in the garage with a 10 to 12 foot shooting lane. I set this up in the garage so I could work this whenever I get a chance and didn't have to worry about the weather or time of day. I focus on drawing to my first anchor point, feeling the pressure of the string on my finger, expand my chest, relax my fingers, and make sure my hand hits the second anchor point after the shot. Then repeat.

My traditional skills are advancing rather nicely at this moment. I can stay within the 8 rings on a 3D Deer target from point blank to 25 yards pretty consistently. Of course there is the occasional string pluck, dropped bow arm, too much back tension, too little back tension, and brain farts that sent my arrows of the mark. But I can now recognize these issues when I do them, make the appropriate corrections, and continue on my tradition archery path.

I have the same deal in my basement with a horse mat hung behind it. Yeah one thing about traditional bows is no matter how much of an expert you are, you’re going to send one wide. I’ll send 10 arrows dead center and the 11th will hit wide. That’s the nature of the beast though. A first for me last season was shooting a deer on the move. I had never considered it before but shoot instinctively and had drawn and let it fly before I had the chance to tell myself not too. I’m bad to over think a shot in a stand.

I make my own arrows and can’t tell you how many I didn’t get as straight as I thought or just don’t fly worth a flip and put them into the wall.
