at a vestavia track meet Tue night, i ordered an $8 hamburger combo, a $3 bag of peanuts and a $3 diet coke of which i paid for with a 20. lil HS girl proceeds to give me my order, a smile and then $4 change.

after kindly explaining to her she shorted me $2, she appears with her mother, a track booster and 3 iphone calculators. we ultimately had to agree to disagree. i ended up getting my additional $2 and 3 very disgusted looks from what i'm sure were 3 very nice young women most of the time.

it's a sad state we live in when simple logic, common sense and basic math skills are almost absent from an entire generation.

I finally quit doing that, for the very same reason. I think a lot of the registers have symbols or pics of bills in different denominations. Ring up the order, guy gives you a $5, hit the five pic, machine figures the change. She didn't have an easy way to enter your $5.25. What I do now--take the 75 cent change, add my quarter to it, and ask to trade it for a $1 bill. Even that is too much for some of them, or the company policy wont let them handle any transactions except payment. When they hire minimally educated kids at minimum wage, they need a policy to protect them from scammers.

Had the same thing happen at McDonald's in Clanton. Moron had the bills in one hand and coins in the other hand. Looked at both hands a few times and then looked at me as if to say "I don't understand" frikin dipschitt.

The customer came back up to the concession stand a few minutes later and demanded her 50 cents. She was informed it had been given to her. Customer stated her hands were full and she left it outside the window but still expected it to be given back to her.

Cash is king is a statement that individuals under 30 are kicking to the curb. I worked at Publix as a cashier for several years and young people are RARELY using cash.
I'm just a young dumb millennial that is getting 10% cash back on fuel in Q1, Q2 10% back at grocery stores, Q3 10% at restaurants & Q4 10% at membership stores & Amazon.
I'll be using all the cash back I accrue on my Discover card and using that towards whatever I have remaining on my car loan.

I don't like dealing with cash or paying with it. Conveniently enough I don't find myself at cash-only snack bars too often.

I've yet to see Federal reserve notes refused.
Cards are nice I suppose,those dead presidents NEVER go out of style buying supplies and such.

I've yet to see cash put cash back in my pocket and the vast majority of establishments do not offer a cash discount(3% typical merchant fee). The ones that come to mind that offer a cash discount are the exception not the rule gas stations & some online gun stores.

I have. I responded to a call one evening when a man called the police because the clerk refused to take a $2 bill. He said he wouldn't have called except the clerk told him "Yous must think I's stupid. Aint know such thing as a $2 bill." or something very similar to this. I explained that it was real and my Grandmother used to send us one on our birthdays. She was still skeptical so I took the man's info and told her that if it was not real, I would personally arrest him for counterfeiting. She accepted it and I never heard another word about it.

I have had cash refused. I went to buy over $1000 worth of pipe and the guy wouldn't take cash. I had to use my card to pay for it. This from an established business near Bessemer.

I went to a Cullman high baseball game last week with my son and his cousin. Gave the high school girl working the gate a $20 and she had to break out her phone calculator to figure up the change. My 8 year old promptly called her out on needing a calculator. She said math wasn’t her strong area. At least she’s honest.

When I used to travel a bunch I would carry $2 bills for tips. I would either get thanked with some comment on it, or stopped and asked why I was giving out fake money.

How was the burger at the Vestavia concessions? One of the best burger joints in the city is right down the hill from there. Probably should of waited and gone there.

Graybar in Huntsville don't accept cash. Not sure of their many other locations.

Back a few years ago (maybe 7-8) when the dollar coins were widely available I had plenty of folks look at them like a cow looking at a new gate.
