You are making a change in ~2 weeks and don't know what you want to do. There is step out on faith, but you my friend are taking it to a whole new level.

Where are your strengths? What do you ENJOY doing? Have cash to invest? What fields do you have experience in? This. JB, don't get too distracted with what we each do for a living. Mine happens to be forestry and wildlife management. Turkeyboy nailed it. Start with what you enjoy doing.

Maybe it will be better under Trump but being self employed is not all it is cracked up to be with the taxes you pay. I've had self employed friends take jobs just to let someone else deal with that aspect.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Squirrel farming sounds nice...
In all seriousness, if I had to make a career change today, I would start some sort of business where I could put "at risk" people to work. Something like a lawn care business that used as many special needs employees as possible. Give them a purpose, an ability to make an income, and make a living for yourself & family as well.

There is a guy down here who owns a pest control company. He gets special needs folks to help him spray. Each crew will be 1 average Joe and 1 special helper. Joe will do all the driving, the mixing of chemicals, etc. The helper will check the termite traps, use the pump sprayer outside, and carry the clip board. The customers love it too.

I have customers/end users that go out of their way when they travel to Huntsville to say hi to several special needs guys we employee.

If I had 20 grand laying around I'd quit today and start cutting grass pressure washing and doing general handy man stuff full time tomorrow I did this for a while. Bout worked myself to death. Once your name gets out and you establish yourself as trust worthy, you'll get more calls than you can possibly cover. Also, research window washing. I know it sounds silly, but there is serious money to be made and it's minimal investment. I made $400-$500 a day sometimes doing residential windows, but commercial windows are more reliable and steady income.

Like he said you work yourself to death and have to deal with idiots every day but I’m happy and can do what I want when I want. It’s hard getting started but once you get established if your a go getter there is a lot of money to be made
