I haven't hunted with a rifle this season. Wondering who else was still going bow only....

Bow-only here. The thought of using a rifle never crosses my mind. Last deer shot and hunted with a rifle was in 1991.

I've got about 20 hunts under my belt this year, and I've carried my rifle on 3 of them. What I carry depends all on the wind. It's hard for me to get close with a nw wind the way my property lays and deer are traveling.

The bow forum has died since gun season, so I'z just making sure I wasn't the only one here that was still short hunting.

I hope to use my bow some more. That means I got a new permit for my honey hole that is "bow only". I like to use it where nobody else is hunting, but if there are other gun hunters in there I do very good to see one within gun range.

I still bow hunt every weekend, but if I can hunt after work I don't have time to get in a climber so I just carry a rifle and sneak up to a green field. So far all my kills this year have been with a bow (2 does, 1 buck)

Scouted yesterday morning after I got out of the tree with a rifle. Found a good spot near a field where the deer are going into the field (not on my property). It is thick in there but I found a tree that sets up good for a stand. Since shooting is limited anyway then I am going back with my bow only in that area. Got a doe in bow season so really do not have much desire to hunt with a gun anyway.

When alone I bow hunt, longbow or recurve. I carry a rifle when I take my grandson.

I haven't rifle killed a deer in two years, still eating buffalo meat from last year. I have killed two good bucks with my recurve, one an eight year old and the other a five year old, both 11 pointers.

Still bow hunting most of the time. I have broken out the rifle a couple of times to hunt over some larger fields.

I take a rifle when I'm taking the kids with me but I see a lot more deer when bow hunting. Maybe I'm going to the wrong spots with the gun. frown

I'm still at it. Continue to get deer in bow range eating acorns. Killed a doe last weekend and got busted by a couple of more Saturday. I really enjoy getting the deer that close.

bow only for the duration for me. hunted with some kids who killed deer (two were first ever deer) with rifle. I enjoy that. but, if hunting solo, i'd rather strike out with my bow than shoot one with my rifle. i killed many deer in the past with a rifle, so not knocking it. just get so much more enjoyment now out of the bow "experience."

well, I bowhunted all year for the first time myself (except one lonely afternoon when I had an awful cold, and sat in a shooting house - and regretted it). Anyway, killed a couple does and had two impressive performances from Tekan's (first time shooting them, now I here they are changing them...again). I love January hunting, but my season is pretty much over. My wife has a scheduled delivery for next Wednesday for our second child - another boy, and I am gonna be a good husband and hang it up this year. Got to build some points for turkey season, when things get serious.

Congratulations. I'd tell my wife to suck it up and postpone that delivery about 3 more weeks. Give it a try and let us know exactly how that turns out for you. laugh

I just like being up close and intimate with deer! I killed a doe last week with my bow. I wasn't going to shoot her but she kept sniffing around my tree and knew something wasn't right.

I could only take it for so long... not a buck in sight and after approx 10 mins, I couldn't take it any longer!!!

Great lesson learned... my Summit climber.... the standing platform was too low from my sitting platform. When I stood up, I could not shoot direct below (well, not straight down, but almost) me as the bottom of my bow was hitting the climber's bar on the sitting platform.

I had to wait until the doe moved out to 15 yards before I could place an expandable b'head perfectly behind the shoulder!

After the shot, I lowered my sitting platform and practiced pulling my bow back to make sure my bow would not hit my stand and it worked. I'm just glad I didn't make that mistake with a big buck!!!

Anyway, yes, when I'm hunting by myself and not with my son, I'm bow hunting and LOVIN' it!!

Still at it, walked to my stand Friday morning a little later than normal and had two bucks chasin a doe. They were 45 yards from my tree and moving across the creek, couldnt get a shot off. The big 10 was killed the next day by a guy at the club with a rifle. Dang!

Finished my bowhunting for the year, 2 bucks (8 and 6) and 4 doe. Had a blast. Man it gets rough trying to hide in a tree in Jan. Lack of cover and educated deer sure make getting one close a challenge.

Already looking for to next Oct! LOL

Haven't carried a gun all season. 1 buck and 2 does so far. Hope to get 2 more before season is over next week. Put my son on 4 so haven't tried hard for myself after my kills.

Still at it. A lot of deer in northeast alabama are already back to there early season feeding patterns. But man with lack of cover you look like a group of buzzards in a stand. I always try to have a camera man with me. Few more days left

Killed a very very nice Alabama 8 pt on 1-15-12 with my bow and a very nice mainframe 8 with my bow in IL this past Nov. I'll post soon. I haven't fired my gun all year and don't plan to.
