You can get replicas. I regret killing mine. She had huge eyes. That was before replicas tho once a bass is over 10 pounds it gets bug-eyed.

Yeah, I'm aware and have seen some nice ones but it'd be more special to me to have that individual fish on the wall. I set my personal benchmark for a mounted bass when I was a kid: 10 pounds. If I ever break it then it'll go on the wall....And just fyi, I don't think any big bass are in danger as I have yet to even break the 6 pound mark!

Ninja I was in the same boat, I don't think I had caught one over 4 until I pulled a 10-3.

Yeah...We'll see if I can get something bigger this spring. I've caught a half dozen or so 5+ pounds but haven't broken 6 yet.

Can't they do plaster/airbrush taxidermy of fish that looks just as good as using the actual fish these days? I thought they basically just needed several good photos from multiple angles and some measurements and they could "recreate" it pretty damn close?

Yep, they make fiberglass repros. I had a guy out of Texas do one for me on that 10-3. Looks really, really good but it took the guy forever and he gave me the runaround for quite some time about when it would be done. Was just about to the point of sending certified mail and it showed up one day.

The bug eyed effect is age related, not size or weight related. I've caught plenty of 10+ that were bug eyed and plenty that werent. Those that weren't bug eyed were all genetically superior younger fish, in great shape, with the potential to get much larger with age.

If I ever get one that big, I think I'll take several pics of it and frame them. I wouldn't want to kill one, and I wouldn't want a fake one.

haleyville al,
I've mounted 1 fish. She had just came off bed. At the scale she 7.99. The taxi filled her back up when he mounted her. She would have been close to the 10lb mark. I always said I will not mount a fish unless it's bigger. Well I've turned back several large mouth bigger than her. Caught several 6+ spots and small mouth I regret turning back. She was close to 7lbs. I have came to the conclusion that pictures are cheaper. lol at 400-600 per fish I can buy more gear lol.

Oh really abolt? Where did you get your marine biology degree? I have read this explanation many times, but hey. Maybe you stayed at a holiday inn they hadn't. grin

Very interesting article on bass growth.

Just stating facts derived from being on the water a whole lot while exclusively targeting and catching a whole bunch of 10+ fish, you old coot! smile I saw that article when it was first written and agree with everything in it. Funny thing was it confirmed exactly what I was saying. Nothing in it says that all 10 pounders are old and bug eyed. A young 10 lb fish is like a 130" 2 yr old buck in AL. He's a genetically superior specimen. He's the type fish that can get to the mid to upper teens with additional age. Also, it probably did help tremendously that I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last week on business. rofl

When you going to come down and fish with me? I know you said you had arms like a 10 yr old girl now due to your treatments, can you still hang onto a rod when a 10+ tries to rip it out of your hands and take it away from you?
