I'm not a sporting rifle or assault rifle owner. Now that is strange seeing as how this is a hunting forum. You bow hunt only? I only own hunting firearms and a pistol. Most people refer to the AR type rifles as either sporting rifles or assault rifles. I often assault with my hunting rifles and hunt with my assault rifles. yep, I imagine that little buck I shot last month with my bolt action 30-06 felt pretty assaulted afterward...
There are 3 certainties in an uncertain world:
1. All Politicians Are Liars 2. All Gun Laws Are an Infringement 3. Taxation Is Theft

The same people who have made it illegal for us to profile someone who's clearly a threat are the same ones that are pushing for gun control. They want to take your guns there is nothing else to discuss about it. All your guns.
Hopefully Doug with vote for whatever bill they come up with and that will ensure we vote his ass out of office next round.
You don't have to convince us of any of this.. You have to convince some snowflake in FL that doesn't own a firearm.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Pistol you say - guess what weapons (post AR ban) were used in the campus shooting that killed 32 people and wounded 17? ---- 22-caliber Walther P22 semi-automatic handgun and a 9 mm semi-automatic Glock 19 handgun Just as another side note...Columbine was during the ban.

I swear, some folks don't get it.
The ones who say, "I wouldn't mind a ban on X as long as we have hunting rifles" are insane for not believing the left won't come after all of them ALL of them is the ultimate goal and always has been. It doesn't matter if they are "assault" rifles, are used by the military, look scary, are black or pink or purple, have this or that part or whatever. Banning ALL of them is their goal by any means.
Next it will be that "No one needs a semi-automatic ANYthing. Those are what the military uses!" and then it'll be no more .22 rifles, no more semi-auto pistols, no more semi-auto anything. Nada. Nyet. Zero. Because those are bad and evil and shoot 293 bullets a second.
And then it would be pistols, because who really needs a pistol for anything anymore other than law enforcement?
And then it would be ...
Do not fool yourself into thinking this is some kind of pro-gun nutcase "clinging to a Bible and guns" rhetoric. ALL guns is their ultimate goal.

No really I'm not trolling. I'm not that kind of guy. My whole view on this is just not the norm. I've had guns my whole life and would never let anyone take my hunting heritage away. Ever. And I know a lot of people out there want to ban every single gun in America. They believe that will solve the violence problem and they are wrong. Banning assault guns won't fix the problem of mentally deficient people wanting to kill defenseless human beings. I'm just conflicted about the argument FOR assault guns. It's hard for me to understand why someone would need them outside of law enforcement. Or even want them. But please understand I'm not the troller guy just looking for an argument. I feel like the point I made about us already on the road of a weapons ban was a valid point. It's easy to say "You're just trolling now." But it's a little tougher to say yeah you're right, we are already down that road. I won't say your trolling. But I will say this. You feel there is no need for these weapons. Me and a lot of these do. I myself taught my son to shoot with a colt m4. With all the adjustments on the lop you can fit kids better to teach them proper shooting. A lot of us use them for this purpose. A lot of our kids have killed their first deer with one. So to us they are used for what they intended for. Hunting. See this is where a lot of people fall short. They don't see a use for them. We do. We use them to teach the next generation and to pass on the love of the outdoors.

I was talking with my dad about this yesterday. It's funny how people do not understand what the 2nd is for. The ones who want to rise up against the government to fight for gun control do not understand that's the very reason it was written. So the citizens can take a stand against the government.

That’s basically where I am at with it. Analogy I told a buddy, AR style weapons (call them whatever you want) are about like horses to me. I don’t own one. I don’t foresee a situation in which I ever have any interest in owning one. I do think they’re cool, I like looking at them, and even enjoy using one from time to time. Banning horses (or these rifles) wouldn’t effect my life in any way. However, I do know it would negatively effect a lot of people (friends/family of mine) who do enjoy them, so I’m empathetic to that. Basically it boils down to “would a ban stop school shootings?” Which the answer is obviously no. The “why do you need one” argument doesn’t work, because most things we don’t “need” I know this is way over simplified, and doesn’t bring in the amendment, or god given rights stuff. Just where my thoughts are on it. I am afraid of a slippery slope, of giving a little here and there,... as others have pointed out

This is the best point made for the AR type rifles I've ever heard. Very well put man. For the record... I stand corrected on this issue. I appreciate you guys that were civil in explaining where my view was faulted. I always felt like more legislature would not help but I understand now how it will definitely hurt. Thanks guys.

Y'all see that dick, Dem congressman from Connecticut on Tucker last night ? He said he wanted to ban anything that could pop off 20-30 rounds in 1-2 minutes. He said it twice. I bet there's nobody on here that can't "pop off" 20 rounds through a bolt action in 2 minutes.
"Why do you ask"?

Hell when i was young and shooting at a running buck i was asked several times if I was shooting an automatic. I wasn’t afraid to send lead his way in a hurry.
