Long story short.....1 of my neighbors has asked my daughter to babysit for them. They have twin boys age 6. My daughter tells her normal rate is $9 per hour, per kid but since she has twins she will do $7 per hour per kid. Neighbor kinda acted pissy. I laughed and told my daughter to tell her to bring them with her if she didn't like the price. Been a long time since I had to hire a babysitter but pretty sure I paid $10 A hour last time I did. What y'all paying for a babysitter?

Your daughter is totally reasonable. They think since she's a kid they should be able to pay her like $5/hr total.

I think a lot depends on the area AND the parents. That is not an unreasonable rate. Guessing the parents have not had to hire many and could possibly be thinking back to what they were paid as kids. I used to push mow yards for $ 5 and now people pay $40-50 for the same yard.
Mine kept two boys for 6 hours on a Saturday night and was paid $80.

I haven't hired one but from what I've been told, the going rate around here is $10.00 per hour, per kid.

We average 12.50 to 15 bucks an hour depending on the length. I would laugh if someone told me 10-12 bucks an hour per child. I have 3 children and no damn way I am paying that, period. I pay sitter pretty dang often and never heard of such a hugh rate. Where the heck you guys paying that at? I got some operators and mechanics that would come work for 30 bucks a dang hour. Thats more than the mean average household income per hour.

We've paid up to $15/hr because we would know the sitter and wouldnt have to worry about anything when we'd leave. However, my boys are 4 and 2. Somebody could just name a price right now and id pay it. Lol.

Thank God we had grandparents close by or we wouldn’t have been able to go out. That’s some serious pay if we are talking about anything longer than two hours.

When you had a girl that picked our son up from school and stayed with him until we got home,’we paid her $15 an hour.

Just run a craigslist ad and farm it out to the lowest bidder...
Personally, I'd gladly pay a little more and get someone that I'm confident could handle things. Someone that I know and has CPR training would be preferable.

I didn't think she was out of line. I told her to charge her regular price especially after neighbor got kinda snippy.

We had one of those this past summer for 3 kids. Home from college for summer and her mom said get a job. We asked her how much and she said she didn’t care, she just had to get a job. We paid her $50/day to cart kids to practices, take them to movies, hang out at pool, etc... for 8 hours/day. She’s coming back this summer!
